This last Friday was a bit of a goofy day. Because of poor road conditions, our field trip to BigRock Bronze and Zootown Arts is rescheduled until next Friday, December 11th, also meaning that ice skating will be postponed until January. This week the kiddos worked with Google Drive and created websites of their liking. They turned out great! We enjoyed some hot chocolate and watched The Nightmare Before Christmas.

On December 18, we have our field trip to the Nutcracker at the University. If you are signed up for the field trip and would like to ride the bus with us, there is more than enough room! When we return from Christmas break, that Friday is our first field trip to Discovery Ski Mountain. There is required paperwork for your children and if you would like to chaperone. I have shared this information under the Important Forms tab on our website. I will also give Janette access to these forms. Please fill these out as soon as possible and return them to either me on an Explorers Friday or to Janette in the office. We have to submit our registration information a week prior. See you all next Friday!

What a fun Friday we had last week! In the morning, we made cookbooks. The kiddos either brought their favorite recipe or found their favorite on Pinterest. Then they wrote the recipes in their own writing a drew a picture. Once we finished, I made copies of all the recipes and made a cook book for everyone. In the afternoon, we had a visit from Alex and Christine from Taste Buds Kitchen in Missoula. They taught the kiddos how to make lasagna cupcakes and canollis and we learned a little bit about Italian food culture. The food was sooooo good and the kids had a blast! They worked so well with each other and big kids helped the little ones immensely.

This Friday we are heading up to Condon to meet with Northwest Connections. They are going to teach the kids about animal tracking and geography. It is going to be chilly so please bundle up your kids with warm clothes and shoes! We will leave at 9:15 am and return at about 4:15 pm. See you all Friday!

Last Friday was such a blast! First we learned a little about the roots of both the Mexican Dia de los Mu***os or Day of the Dead and our Halloween traditions. Then we made our own Ofrenda or offering/alter where the kiddos made their own sugar skull masks, marigolds, punched paper and a remembrance picture honoring someone or an animal they missed. After lunch, I painted all their faces and we enjoyed the movie The Book of Life. What a great way to celebrate such a fun holiday!

This Friday we have a guest visit from Taste Buds Kitchen, who are going to come out and teach the kids how to make lasagna cupcakes and cannolis! If you could send your kiddos with a copy of their favorite recipe, that would be great! We are going to make a special treat for all you awesome parents! See you all Friday!

Last Friday we visited the University of Montana's Planetarium then hiked the M. The kids has so many great questions for our Planetarium presenter and really enjoyed the show. It was a perfect day for a hike! While some of us struggled...(cough, cough, myself) the kids had a blast!

This Friday will be our Day of the Dead/Halloween Celebration. We will be examining other cultures traditions while still honoring our own. The kids are welcome to wear their Halloween costumes if they would like. I am also offering face painting! It should be a great day!

On Friday, November 6th, we are getting a visit from Taste Buds kitchen. The kiddos decided they would like to do an Italian themed meal and dessert. After words I would like the kids to make a cook book. If your kiddo has a favorite recipe (that is not a family secret) please have them bring a copy of it! See you Friday!

The kiddos had a great time at Travelers' Rest last Friday learning about the Lewis and Clark Expedition and about some Native American games. We had lunch in the park and even got to play a couple Native games called Run and Scream and Double Ball. It was a beautiful fall day and not too far from the exact date that Lewis and Clark stayed at Travelers' Rest back on September 9-11, 1805. Pictures below...

Remember there is not Explorers this Friday, 10/09 or next Friday 10/16. Our next Explorers is on October 23 and we are going to the University Planetarium and Hiking the M. Please be sure to send your kids with hiking shoes, a lunch, AND A WATER BOTTLE! We hope for cooperative weather but be dressed for fall in Montana. See you in a couple of weeks!

Last week's rock climbing trip was a bit hit with the kids! They had a blast and got the chance to climb multiple ropes. Hannah and Matt from Missoula Outdoor Learning adventures were great and taught our kiddos so much. After the kids, got to play in the river with frogs and minnows. Photos below...

This week is our field trip to Traveler's Rest in Lolo. Please send your kids with a lunch, water bottle and warm clothes. The weather is not going to be quite as nice as it was this last Friday and we will be eating lunch in the park when we arrive. We will leave the school around 10:15 am and return around 3:30 pm. See you Friday!

We had a great time on our first field trip to the Jocko River Trout Hatchery! We learned about the the hatchery's purpose and the lifecycle of a rainbow trout, as well as see how they separate the different age groups of the rainbow trout. The kids also got to feed the fish, which they thoroughly enjoyed! Because of our Montana Fish unit the week prior, the kids knew exactly what they were talking about. Jeff and Kate (the fish hatchery people) were very impressed with how much our kids knew!

This week is our rock climbing field trip. It is supposed to be a very nice day, lucky us! Make sure your kids have good, rock climbing shoes that enclose their toes for safety purposes. We will be departing from the school at 9:00 am and returning around 5:00 pm for pick-up. See you Friday!

Last Friday's fishing day was a hit with the kids! They had fun learning to cast with fly rods and spinning rods and learned out to make flies and jigs! A big thank you to Mr. Kelly for taking the time to come out and teach us all this fun stuff about fishing!

Just a reminder, we will be going on a field trip to the Jocko River Trout Hatchery this coming up Friday, 9/18/2015. The weather is going to be pretty mild, so make sure you send your kiddos with some warm clothes! See you on Friday!

Hello parents! The first week of Explorers went great! We have a little bit of a scheduling conflict on Friday mornings through October because of volleyball practice. Please make sure to send your kiddos with a jacket in the morning because we will spend at least the first hour outside if weather permits.

This week is our fishing unit. We will be working on ecology activities in the morning. In the afternoon we have a guest teaching us how to fly cast, make fishing flies and jigs and some fun activities. We look forward to seeing your kids on Friday!

Explorers Activities
“STREAM”

STREAM activities incorporate Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Art, and Math activities to build a high interest activity base that reflects back to the skills and content contained in the four day week.

2015-2016 Calendar: Tentative schedules will be updated weekly and are subject to change throughout the school year. We make the initial plan then make changes according to organizations’ availability to have us attend activities with them.
