Our friends at the US Forest Service are looking for good homes for their burros currently living in Bloomfield, New Mexico (near Farmington). B***os are feral descendants of donkeys brought to North America by early Spanish explorers, but their origins can be traced to Africa. They’re hardy, desert-adapted animals and make excellent pack animals for hikers and hunters after they have been properly conditioned. They can carry 20% of their body weight, which equates to 125-150 pounds. B***os eat less than horses, are known to have gentle demeanors, and are renowned for their strength and endurance. And yes, they’re sooooo cute!
US Forest Service burros are up for adoption (under 10 years of age) or sale (over 10 years). If you’re interested in visiting them or learning more about the Adopt a B***o program, please contact Tolani Francisco: [email protected].
Peaceful Valley Donkey Rescue has a location in Tucson and is always looking for individuals and families to adopt donkeys, too. Learn more about their mission, rescue services, adoption programs: https://donkeyrescue.org/adoption/blm-sale-burros/?mc_cid=2b9b95fad8&mc_eid=ff3ae48088
