Northern New York Library Network

Northern New York Library Network NNYLN is a regional multi-type library agency dedicated to cooperatively providing support and services necessary for all of its member libraries.

The Northern New York Library Network is a multi-type library organization chartered by the Regents in 1965. It provides a range of support services to libraries in seven counties in Northern New York. Those services include resource sharing programs, publications, access to research databases, specialized medical information services, regional catalogs, shared collection development, professional

training programs, archival consultations and training, disaster preparedness, conservation/preservation programs, digitization, and electronic document delivery. The Northern New York Library Network is one of nine regional councils and is part of a coordinated state- wide plan for service to all types of libraries. The Northern New York region covers the largest geographic area of the nine councils, serving libraries over a 10,000 square mile territory. The Network is governed by a 14-member Board of Trustees, which includes representatives from a variety of library types, as well as lay members. The Board’s main function is one of dealing with matters of policy, planning and budget, while the Network’s staff carries out basic operation and management. Membership is open to any library falling within the Network’s territory as defined by the Board of Regents and which meets membership criteria.

happy eclipse Moonday!

With the upcoming solar eclipse, we were interested in what might have been written the last time a total eclipse occurred, which was January 24, 1925. Here are just a couple of articles we found in the historical Cuba, NY newspapers that have been digitized and are now available on NYS Historic Newspapers. They have now completed digitization up through 1994 of the various versions of Cuba's Patriot Newspaper. These newspapers, and others on the website, are searchable by keyword and can be limited by date, publication, county, and city. As you can see, the readability is dependent on the quality of the original microfiche. The digitized newspapers can be found at https://nyshistoricnewspapers.org/

This is an ongoing project, funded through a grant from the South Central Regional Library Council. Check out the website to explore the Amateur Courier (1877 – 1878), Cuba Daily News (1880 – 1881), Cuba Evening Review (Aug 1881 – 1882), Cuba True Patriot (1862-1872), Cuba Patriot (1875-1908), Cuba Patriot Free Press (1909-1914), Cuba Patriot (1914-1920), Cuba Patriot Free Press 1920-1962, The Cuba Patriot (1962 - 1972), Patriot and Free Press (1973 - 1981), Cuba Patriot and Free Press (1981-1993), & New Patriot (1994). If you find something cool, be sure to share it with us!
