Environment & Sustainability Dept at SUNY Potsdam gives students interdisciplinary skills for careers

The Environmental Studies Major is interdisciplinary and is designed to prepare environmental leaders of the future. The curriculum emphasizes four components: humanities and social sciences, natural sciences, skills and the capstone experience. It seeks to provide students with an understanding of human attitudes and behaviors toward nature, and provides a grounding in science to prepare them to shape viable environmental policy and practice.

Welcome back! Just a heads-up that the Department of Environment & Sustainability has moved to Timerman Hall (on the opposite side of campus). Dr. Pearson & Dr. Cleary are side by side in 224 and 226. Come by and say hi.

One week until classes start for the Fall semester. Make sure you've got everything you need to be successful this semester. Check that your bills are paid, make sure you have your textbooks, check your class Brightspace pages (not all will have information before classes start), and find your classrooms. Reach out to your professors if you need any help getting started.

Our 6 Sustainability Interns for ‘25-‘26 plus 2 awesome students from CFD were honored with the Center for Diversity’s Excellence in Service Award. Such hard work has provided a wonderful clothes closet on campus and 4 different pop-up events across campus giving away clothes.

Dr. Cleary, Tucker Siddon ('28), and Ellie Barbolt ('27) presented their mosquito surveillance research at the Faculty-Student Showcase on Friday. We were missing Dr. Rob Snyder and Chase Barbolt ('26), but still had a great time sharing our work with visitors!
