🚲🪖 BIKE HELMET GIVEAWAY! 🪖🚲

Potsdam Police Department is partnering with Harding Mazzotti, LLP to help keep our young riders safe this summer!

Free bicycle helmets will be provided while supplies last — one helmet per child.

A properly fitted helmet can help reduce the risk of serious injury and help keep kids riding safely. We encourage families to stop by, say hello, and help your child gear up for a safe riding season.

***Update- 0821-The vehicle in question has been located and the investigation is ongoing

The Potsdam Police Department are currently investigating a serious hit-and-run incident involving a pedestrian that occurred today, May 16, 2026, on Pierrepont Avenue at approximately 3:37 a.m.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene southbound on New York State Route 56 and is believed to have then turned east onto Garfield Road in the Town of Potsdam.

The suspect vehicle is believed to be an older-model GM pickup truck or SUV, black in color, with heavy front-end damage. UPDATE: possibly Cadillac Escalade

🚲 E-Bike & E-Scooter Safety Campaign

The Potsdam Police Department will be conducting outreach to individuals operating e-bikes and e-scooters in the Village.

We’ve observed:

* Sidewalk riding
* Traffic violations
* Lack of required safety equipment

Officers will be making contact with individuals observed operating in violation of NYS law and will be providing informational flyers directly to those operators outlining proper use and safety guidelines.

This effort is focused on education and awareness. Continued violations may result in enforcement.

Last Thursday, local Girl Scout troops toured the Potsdam Police Department, Potsdam Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Potsdam Fire Department to learn more about how our agencies serve the community.

Scouts had the opportunity to see equipment, ask questions, and get a firsthand look at day-to-day operations.

We appreciate the visit, and the cookies were a welcome bonus. Thank you!
