Why I'm Running
Many people have asked why I am running and more specifically why I’m running against an incumbent judge. This post is longer than most but I will explain. Also – please know that I am not trying to be negative but if you want to know the reasons I chose to run at this time, I have to include some things about my opponent that led to that decision.

First, I have always thought I would run for Judge at some point in my life. My experience on both sides of the courtroom – as a prosecutor and defense attorney – and as a civil attorney will be a benefit to those who appear in front of me. I want to continue to give back to my community and I want to be involved. Working as a Prosecutor and hopefully as a Judge allows me to do that in my professional life in addition to my personal life.

Second, I have been very concerned about the way this courtroom is currently run. My opponent is late to work every single day. Sometimes she is as much as 2 hours late and arrives as much as an hour and a half AFTER her hearings start, leaving both litigants and their attorneys waiting. Police officers are stuck waiting to have search warrants and arrest warrants signed. It is discourteous and unfair to those who appear before her. I am very conscious of the fact that during Court hours, my time is not my own. It is the People’s time and I am there to serve them. I understand that being a Judge is more than just 8-5, but if you are not available to do your job during business hours, it doesn’t really matter what you are doing after hours. The taxpayers aren’t paying me to participate on nonprofit boards and attend charity events.

Third, her dangerous decisions in the courtroom have led to at least one death, one stabbing, and a string of home invasions, all that could have been prevented by common sense decisions. She has even gone so far as to call herself a “defense judge.” I believe a Judge should be everyone’s Judge, regardless of which side they are on or which side the Judge previously practiced on.

I would be happy to talk to you more about the reasons I’m running and why I am the best choice for District Court Judge. Send me a message and I will get back to you as soon as possible

People should know the facts when making a decision about who their Judge should be and the fact is that a vote for me is a vote for ethics, safety, and fairness. Vote Ryan John Tetloff for 56A District Court Judge!!

Thank you for your support.

I would like to thank Judges Cunningham, Maurer, Byerley, and Morton for the letter they published today. I was made aware yesterday of an extremely unethical and untrue "affidavit" supposedly written by one of the local defense lawyers. I have always conducted myself with integrity and treat everyone fairly. I believe in holding people accountable for their actions.

While I will not be sharing the political hit piece published online, you may be receiving it in the mail. This is a desperate attempt to disparage me for political reasons on the eve of an important election. Please share the attached letter. This is politics at its worst, and I truly hoped we'd rise above and be better than this.

I recently learned of my endorsement by the Command Officers Association of Michigan. This endorsement was recommended by the Command Officers of the Eaton County Sheriff's Office, Sergeants and Lieutenants I work with every single day. I am proud to have earned their respect and trust and I truly appreciate their endorsement. I look forward to working with them as your next 56A District Court Judge!

Last night, I attended the Mid Michigan Treatment Court Foundation Recovery reception with a group of my Eaton County Treatment Court colleagues, some of whom are pictured here with the Foundation President. What an amazing organization that provides assistance to people struggling toward a better life. We heard the moving testimony of one former participant about the changes she was able to make with the help of the Court and the Foundation. I have been blessed to participate in treatment courts during my time serving Eaton County.

I am grateful for the endorsement of our Elected Prosecutor and my boss, Douglas R. Lloyd. I am proud of my work on behalf of the People of Eaton County over the last 7 1/2 years. I have worked hard to make sure justice occurs for our citizens, defendants, and victims. Many people believe a prosecutor's job is to convict people, but that couldn't be further from the truth. A prosecutor has the duty to ensure that guilty people are convicted and innocent people are not. I have taken that duty very seriously.

Remember to Vote Ryan John Tetloff for 56A District Court Judge on November 8th or by Absentee Ballot - A vote for ethics and integrity!
