Pottstown Human Relations Commission The Pottstown Human Relations Commission is a local service, appointed by Borough Council, which all A woman is paid less than a man for the same work.

A job applicant is turned down because he is African-American. Your boss or co-worker makes unwanted sexual advances. A person with disabilities is denied the use of a guide dog. A woman is fired for being pregnant. A neighbor harasses you because of your religion...
All of these situations and many more can be illegal discrimination. If you need help and aren’t sure about your rights, contact us!

To promote mutual understanding, respect, and cooperation among all racial, cultural, religious, ethnic, and diverse groups within the Pottstown Borough

WHAT WE DO
• Enforce PA’s anti-discrimination laws
• Seek out issues and needs of Pottstown community
• Take referrals from local organizations and officials
• Conduct educational events and special projects that improve Pottstown community relations
• Communicate and promote local activities and events
WHO WE HELP
Minority and at-risk populations, including, but not limited to:
• Low-income, disabled, immigrant, LGBTQ, elderly
• Those affected by racial, gender, or religious discrimination
Those in need of mediation and/or conflict resolution services, such as neighbor disputes or conflicts between community entities (residents, business owners, schools, churches, etc.)

CURFEW REMINDER:
The juvenile curfew does not change because school is out!
For those under the age of 18, curfew is 9:30pm to 5am Sunday through Thursday, and 11pm to 5am on Fridays and Saturdays.

***UPDATE - We still have steering wheel locks available. If any Borough residents who own other vehicle makes/models are interested in obtaining one, please call 610-970-6574 to schedule a pick-up***

Pottstown Police Department is offering free steering wheel locks to the first 100 owners of Kia and Hyundai vehicles between the years of 2011 and 2021 to help deter the theft of these vehicles in the Borough of Pottstown. Vehicle owners wishing to obtain a steering wheel lock must contact Pottstown Police at 610-970-6574 to schedule a pick-up date and time. Vehicle owners must present a current driver’s license and current vehicle registration showing a current address located within the Borough of Pottstown to receive a steering wheel lock.

Reminder: The juvenile curfew does not change because it is summer time! For those under the age of 18, curfew is 9:30pm to 5am Sunday through Thursday, and 11pm to 5am on Fridays and Saturdays.

Here are some sections from the Borough of Pottstown Ordinance (Chapter 6, Part 1, Article A - Night-time Curfew):

“It shall be unlawful for any minor to be or remain in or upon any public highway, street, road, alley, park or other public place or in any enclosure or vehicle which is on or in close proximity to any such street, road, alley, highway, park or other public place within the Borough of Pottstown, between the hours of 9:30 p.m. to 5:00 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and the hours of 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.”

The following section applies to a parent/guardian who allows a minor to be out after curfew unaccompanied. Minors can be out after curfew if accompanied by a parent or guardian. - “It is hereby made unlawful for any parent, guardian or the person having the legal care or custody of a minor to allow or permit such minor to violate any of the provisions of this Part without legal justification therefor.”

An exception to the curfew is traveling to and from employment - "To any minor lawfully employed making it necessary to be on or in highways, streets, parks, etc., as stated above, and possessing a current letter certifying the same and signed by the employer, parent or guardian."

“It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation operating or having charge of any public place to knowingly permit any minor under the age of 18 years to loiter, loaf or idle in such place during the hours prohibited by this Section”

“Any minor in violation of this Part may be taken into custody by the Borough police, who shall notify the parents, guardian or other person having legal custody or care of such child.”

“Any juvenile violating this Section who does not immediately, upon demand, provide proof of his identity, date of birth and place of residence, may be taken into police protection until such proof of identity, date of birth and place of residence is established.”

Penalties
“Any minor who shall violate any provision of this Part shall, upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to pay a fine not less than $25 nor more than $100.”

“Any person who shall violate any provision of this Part shall, upon conviction thereof, be sentenced to pay a fine not less than $100 nor more than $600, or imprisonment in the County jail not to exceed 30 days.”
