Good morning East Coventry, this is Mrs. Young with some news from the PTO. Today is the first day of Literacy month and that matches up perfectly with our Read-a-thon kick off. Today is the first day you can start earning tickets for the awesome raffle baskets we set up in the cafeteria. There's books, sports stuff, movie tickets, Legos, stuffies and so much more. Tonight, have an adult at home scan that bright green flyer that your teacher gave you, and when they complete your registration, you'll earn 3 raffle tickets. You can also start logging reading sessions on that little half white page your teacher gave you by writing down the date and how long you read for. If you're doing your homework, that's an easy way to earn 10 raffle tickets. Just fill out that paper, color in your stack of books, and drop it in the PTO mailbox across from the Lost and Found closet. Each student may only complete one reading log for 10 tickets.
Now, the real reason we're having this read-a-thon, our PTO supplies EC with spirit shirts every year, helps pay for field trips, brings in assemblies for us, throws some great parties throughout the year and lots more. All of that costs money. So for every $10 your raise, you'll earn another raffle ticket, with no limit to how many tickets you can earn. You can raise money by having an adult share your donation page from the read-a-thon website, or you can bring in donations that we'll register for you. Ask family members, friends, and neighbors to help support our school. We're fundraising ALL month long, so we have until Sept 30th to reach our goal of $15,000.
So, that's how we fundraise and earn individual raffle prizes, here's how we can work together as a team to earn some fun experiences together.
READ, READ, READ! During Sept 6-Sept 19th, that's two weeks, an adult can log minutes that you read onto your personal site and they will count toward our total.
The more minutes we log, the more fun we have.
We can earn a crazy hair or hat day, a pajama day or even swap teachers for a lesson! If we reach our goal of 250,000 minutes read from Sept 6 to Sept 19, we're going to put the teachers in inflatable costumes and have them race! I know I said half a million at the assembly, but that was a blooper on my part and I really want us to earn that race, so our big goal is 250,000 minutes! Check out the bulletin board for all of our other goals.
We have some prizes for our most dedicated readers too. The top readers in each grade will get $15 Scholastic bucks to use at the fall book fair. Our top reading grade level will get a glow popcorn party. And the top classroom will earn $150 toward new seating for their room for use at the counter or reading corner! Stools, bean bags, mini pads, it's the teacher's choice.
We hope all these prizes have gotten you excited about reading.
This is our most important fundraiser and we want to crush that goal of $15,000 so we can have the best year at EC. So go home, register online and ask an adult to log your minutes and share your fundraising page. And please remember, hands off of the baskets in the cafeteria.
