Week 32: Architecture

Built in 1913, the mansion is a beautiful example of Tudor-Jacobethan Revival architecture. Inspired by the grand homes of Tudor and Elizabethan England, the architecture was designed to feel historic, substantial, and a little bit storybook-like — even though the mansion was built right here in Pottsville in the early 20th century.

Take a look at the exterior and you’ll notice some of the signature details: steeply pitched and varied rooflines, prominent gables, decorative half-timbering, tall brick chimneys, stone accents, multi-paned windows, and an asymmetrical façade that gives the home its distinctive character.

One of our favorite things about the mansion is that there isn’t just one detail that makes it special. It’s the way all of these architectural elements come together to create a home that feels both grand and incredibly unique. Every angle tells a slightly different story. 🏡

So the next time you pass by the mansion, take a second look. You might notice something you’ve never seen before.

Week 31: Maximalism & Minimalism

Maximalism or minimalism? At the Yuengling Mansion, you’ll find a little bit of both. 🏛️

Many mansions of this era were designed with a maximalist approach—layer upon layer of intricate details, elaborate furnishings, ornate finishes, and beautiful objects filling each room. And the Yuengling Mansion is no exception. But not every space was created to impress. The spaces occupied by the Yuengling family were often highly decorated and designed to make an impression, while the areas used by household staff were much more modest and functional. Two very different aesthetics, under the same roof and both tell a story.

The first photo shows the more minimalist side of the mansion, the maid's bathroom on the third floor, a much simpler and more utilitarian space. The contrast is a fascinating reminder of how the Mansion was originally lived in. The second photo takes you to the opposite end of the spectrum and gives you a sneak peek at a brand-new space inside the Mansion that has been completely transformed. We can't wait to show you the finished space SOON!

Which style are you drawn to: maximalism or minimalism?
