My deepest gratitude to all who supported and encouraged my campaign. We share the urgent desire to see this City revive and thrive through transparency and accountability by both Council and City Administration. Unlike any other candidate, my campaign was embraced by a wide spectrum of city residents who have been—and remain—deeply, consistently, knowledgeably involved and dedicated to this City’s diversity, activities, poughtential and life, even as our Common Council and City Administration have done their damnedest to wipe out that involvement.
For those who’ve not yet seen the 8th Ward outcome:
—Laurie Sandow, running a grassroots campaign, took 18% of the 8th Ward votes with broad support spanning all demographics and a wide political spectrum.
—Alana Wade withdrew from the race in mid-September, too late to remove her name from the ballot. Straight Dem-line voting gave her 31% of the votes.
—Megan Deichler—with no record of community involvement and no public platform—rode her covert alliance with Sarah Salem, Sarah Brannen and Evan Menist to take 44% of the votes.
As of November 2, with absentee ballots still being counted:
https://elections.dutchessny.gov/3811-2/
Laurie Sandow (PPK) – 18.08% – 158 8th Ward votes
Alana Wade (DEM, Withdrawn) – 31.01% – 271 8th Ward votes
Megan L Deichler (CF) – 44.62% – 390 8th Ward votes
Write-in – 55 – 6.29%
There’s an old line that says, “The government you elect is the government you deserve.” We’re about to find out whether this city deserves, or will be deserted by, the incoming council: Sarah Salem, Debra Long, Evan Menist, Lorraine Johnson, Nathan Shook, Yvonne Flowers, Natasha Cherry, Nedra Thompson, and Megan Deichler.
