RETIREMENT:

Today Officer Justin Bruzgul worked his final shift for the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department. Justin began his law enforcement career in 1999 as a Corrections Officer for the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office. Justin was sworn in as a Police Officer for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection Police in 2002 and transferred to the City of Poughkeepsie in 2004. During his time here, Justin served as a crime scene technician, field training officer, MRAP operator and as a member of the Mobile Field Force Team. In addition to Patrol, Justin was previously assigned to the Dutchess County Drug Task Force and the K9 Unit. Justin gained notoriety in 2015 along with his K9 partner Kiah, the first Police pit bull in New York State. Justin and Kiah brought acclaim to the department and the law enforcement profession through their numerous television appearances and national press until her passing in 2023. On behalf of the City of Poughkeepsie PBA, best of luck for a long and happy retirement.

Brayden’s great-grandfather, John Timko, was a retired City of Poughkeepsie Police Sergeant who recently passed away and Brayden is helping to honor his memory by completing acts of kindness to others. I want to thank the Ulster County K-9 Group for their thoughtful gift. The picture captures CPPD K-9 Kiah’s playful personality. We will hang this in our home where we can admire it everyday. It has been a pleasure to train with and learn from every member of this awesome, dedicated and knowledgeable training group.
