Today, Roosevelt Fire Department volunteers finished their Fire Prevention school tour, which included Gummy Bear Day Care, Hyde Park Nursery School, North Park Elementary, and Ralph R Smith Elementary. Volunteers taught fire safety basics like "go low and go," demonstrated a fire hose, and showed students the ambulance, fire engines, smoke house and firefighter gear. The students had great questions and their enthusiasm suggested that we may have inspired some future firefighters! Thank you to each school and its wonderful staff for hosting us and for the delicious treats and lunches, and to our volunteers, many of whom took time off work to participate. Hope to see you all again next year. Until then please practice fire safety!

Today, members of the Roosevelt Fire Department attended the Annual Memorial Ceremony honoring fallen first responders. Hosted by the Dutchess County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association, the ceremony took place at Dutchess 911 Center, Creek Road, Poughkeepsie, NY. During the hour-long service, several speakers paid tribute to the firefighters, EMS/rescue squad personnel, and Auxiliary members who passed away this year. Approximately 85 names were read aloud, each followed by the toll of a bell. Ryan Dupilka, Assistant Chief of Roosevelt read the names of 8 volunteers who have passed this year from the department. (video attached).
Attendees saluted as wreaths were laid at the memorial, and the event featured "Taps" on the trumpet and "Amazing Grace" on the bagpipes.

It was a beautiful day for the community to come together to attend the service and remember those we lost.
We thank everyone who attended, and we are grateful to the Dutchess County Volunteer Fire Fighters Association for their hard work organizing such a well-run and respectful ceremony.

Roosevelt Fire District Company #2 and district members hosted a highly successful 2026 Fishing Derby today.
The weather was perfect, and more than 50 children registered to participate.
Guests enjoyed more than 100 free hot dogs, along with plenty of chips and water.
T-shirts were purchased, and 50/50 raffle ticket sales totaled $30, which went to George, a dedicated member of the fire police.
The Fishing Derby ran from noon to 2 p.m., and everyone enjoyed the afternoon.
Not everyone caught a fish, but there is always next year.
Prizes were given to all the children, with the top three awards going to:
1st place: Javon, with two fish weighing 1.32 pounds and 1.8 pounds.
2nd place: Aidan, with a fish weighing 1.75 pounds.
3rd place: Weslin, with three fish.

Thank you to all who came out today and to our sponsors. See you next year. Photo credit: Joan Goldhammer and Jay Christensen.
