Dutchess County has invested in a new, state-of-the-art building to train local firefighters. The County’s new three-story modular Live Fire Training Structure utilizes shipping containers and movable walls to create realistic rooms and hallways, giving firefighters authentic training for a wide range of emergency scenarios. A dedication ceremony for the new training structure will be held next Saturday, June 20th, at the County’s Emergency Response campus.

Strong thunderstorms impacted eastern Dutchess County this afternoon and evening producing ‘tennis ball sized” hail in Pawling.

Numerous trees and power lines are down, resulting in power outages in many towns, with the most outages currently in Dover and Amenia.

Dutchess County Emergency Management is in contact with NYSEG and actively monitoring the situation.

🌩️ ⚡️A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING has been issued for eastern Dutchess County until 5:00pm.

Heavy rain, damaging winds, quarter-sized hail, and dangerous lightning are expected. Wind gusts could result in trees and wires coming down. NEVER approach downed wires. If storms impact your area, remain indoors, if possible.

🚨The National Weather Service has issued Heat Advisories for Dutchess County for BOTH TODAY AND TOMORROW from noon through 8pm each day.🚨

The combination of high temperatures and high humidity will lead to heat index values or "feels-like" temperatures close to 100-102°F.
Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids, and stay in an air conditioned area, if possible.

NEVER leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, under any circumstances.

Fairview Fire District and mutual aid partners are again operating this morning at a fire at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center. Route 9 and local shopping plazas are open at this time.

You may see smoke in the area. If you have questions or concerns about air quality, please refer to the following recent information from the Dutchess County Department of Health.

With the massive fire at Hudson Heritage, we have gotten questions regarding air quality and asbestos. Dutchess County Department of Health has been coordinating with New York State Departments of Environmental Conversation (DEC), Health (DOH) and Labor (DOL) and shares the following information:

QUESTION: Where can I find information about air quality?
ANSWER: Air quality is measured at various locations by the EPA, NYSDEC and other community partners. Monitoring data is available at https://dec.ny.gov/environmental-protection/air-quality/monitoring

QUESTION: Where can I find information about exposure to smoke from fires?
ANSWER: NYS DOH provides information about tips when air quality is unhealthy, symptoms, and when to speak to a health care provider online at https://www.health.ny.gov/environmental/outdoors/air/smoke_from_fire.htm

QUESTION: What is done to control the spread of asbestos fiber?
ANSWER: By wetting the structure and maintaining a perimeter around the area, the fire departments control the spread of asbestos during the fire.

Fairview Fire District and its mutual aid partners continue to operate at the fire at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center in the Town of Poughkeepsie. This is a complex and extended operation that will continue throughout the night.

The Dutchess County Department of Emergency Response is on scene at the former Hudson River Psychiatric Center supporting the Fairview Fire District and mutual aid partners who are operating at a significant, escalating structure fire.

Expect heavy smoke in the area. Hudson Heritage Plaza is closing to support firefighting operations. Please avoid the area until further notice.
