Last week the council hosted three roundtables to discuss child care in our counties. As an open forum for educators, parents and business owners were able to share their concerns, wins and ideas for the future of child care. This professional development training for early childhood educators explores the purpose, value, and best practices of effective documentation in early learning environments, Participants will learn how meaningful observation and documentation help make children’s learning visible, guide intentional teaching, strengthen family partnerships, and support individualized learning experiences. Through reflective discussion and practical examples, educators will examine what to document, how to document objectively and respectfully, and when documentation should be shared with families, colleagues and support professionals.

The Child Care Council of Dutchess and Putnam hosted a Child Care Roundtable in Carmel, NY last night that brought together child care providers, elected officials, and stakeholders. The discussion, facilitated by the Council’s Executive Director Himali Pandya, covered what is working and what the challenges are in child care in Putnam County. We were joined by NYS Senator Senator Pete Harckham Pete Harckham, the Chair of the Putnam County Legislature, Daniel G. Birmingham, and Putnam County Commissioner Sara Servadio. This informative discussion, the first of many to come, continues the essential dialogue on how together as a community, we can more fully support child care providers and families in Putnam County.

Last night in Pine Plains we were joined by families and businesses from Northern Dutchess County in focus groups to hear about what is working and is not working in child care. We were joined by NY State Senator Michelle Hinchey , NY State Assembly Member Didi Barrett , Dutchess County Legislator Chris Drago , and Johanna Contreras of U.S. Congressman Pat Ryan Office. Many issues were discussed around the needs of families, businesses and child care providers in the more rural areas of Dutchess County.
