Freedom’s Purchase Ranch didn’t begin with land. It began with love. ❤️
These old photographs show my mom, Suzanne Baird, working as a registered nurse in the nursery at Saint Mary Hospital in 1984.
For every newborn, she handmade a special name card so that each new life—and each family—felt welcomed and celebrated. It may have seemed like a small gesture, but that was simply who my mom was. She found ways to make people feel seen, valued, and cared for.
That amazing woman raised me.
I grew up surrounded by a caring, loving family that taught me what safety, compassion, and belonging truly mean. I know how fortunate I was—and I also know that far too many people grow up without those things.
That is one of the deepest reasons we are building Freedom’s Purchase Ranch.
I want to share with others what my family gave me: a place where people are welcomed, supported, encouraged, and reminded that their lives matter. A sanctuary where veterans, families, and people facing difficult circumstances can find community, rebuild their confidence, learn new skills, and begin again.
My mom has always made the world better simply by caring for the people in front of her. Her example helped shape the man I became and the mission we are building today.
Freedom’s Purchase Ranch is our way of carrying that love forward—one person, one family, and one new beginning at a time.
Thank you, Mom, for showing me that changing the world starts with making someone feel loved.
