The Cobb County Retired Employees Association (CCREA) will be meeting on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the West Cobb Senior Center at 11:30 a.m.



This month we will have Cobb County Tax Assessor, Christine Stinchcomb, talking to us about the job of the Tax Assessor and the Board of Tax Assessors that set the digest for the county. She will also let you know how to appeal if you disagree with the assessment. I also ask that you save the date for the May 20th meeting when we have our annual cookout scheduled.

We hope each of you will be able to attend and please encourage other retirees to join us. This is a great opportunity for fellowship and catching up with old friends. We will continue to work hard to provide information that is important to you and have speakers that you want to see and hear.

The funeral for Joe "Trooper Looper" B. Looper, a retired Cobb County police officer and community fixture in Marietta, Georgia, is scheduled for Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Service Details
Funeral Service: Thursday, March 26, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Piedmont Church (570 Piedmont Rd, Marietta, GA 30066).
Visitation: Wednesday, March 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Marietta Funeral Home & Crematory (915 Piedmont Road, Marietta, GA 30066).
Interment: Burial will follow the funeral service at Chandler Cemetery in Calhoun, Georgia.

Our Guest speaker is attorney Ryan K. Patrick, managing partner with Smith, Tumlin, McCurley & Patrick, P.C.. Mr. Patrick practices primarily in the areas of commercial and residential real estate, business transactions, estate planning and probate matters. Bring your questions, and we all will learn about estate planning and probate.

We are doing something a little different at this meeting. We will have pizza for lunch and spend our time talking to each other. We will have an open microphone for people to talk to the group about anything they want to discuss. This could be things happening in your life or at home, talking about your travel experience, talking about tips others may benefit from, scams you may have experienced, or anything else you would like to share.

The Cobb County Retired Employees Association (CCREA) will be meeting Wednesday, October 15, 2025, at the West Cobb Senior Center at 11:30 a.m.


This is one of the most important meetings of the year. It will provide updates on Medicare for 2026, HR updates regarding Via Benefits, and Houze & Associates updates on vision, dental, and additional benefits. If you have questions or concerns about your medical, dental, vision, or other benefits, this is the place for answers. The dates for open enrollment will be discussed and what happens if it is not completed within those dates.

The Cobb County Retired Employees Association (CCREA) will be meeting Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at the West Cobb Senior Center at 11:30 a.m.

PIZZA, PIZZA! We have another lunch and learn. Cobb County Finance Director Bill Volkman will be providing our retirees with an update on the county finances, the retirement pension plan, and OPEB plans. Bill does an incredible job as the Finance Director for Cobb County with a budget that is now over one BILLION dollars. As the Finance Director he also sits on the Board of Trustees for the Pension Board, so please come hear the latest updates.

Also please mark you calendar for our meeting next month on October 15. This meeting will be an update on Medicare, HR updates regarding Via Benefits, and Houze & Associates updates on vision, dental, and additional benefits.

Mike J. Reece passed away on June 25 from cancer. Mike worked for the Cobb County Sheriff's Office for 34 years retiring as a Major.

Visitation hours will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory, located at 2480 Macland Rd SW, Marietta, GA 30064. On Saturday, July 12, 2025, visitation hours will be from 11:00 am to 1:00pm, followed by a Memorial Service at 1:00 pm, all at West Cobb Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow on July 12, 2025, at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park at 2:15 PM.

It is with a heavy heart that I share the passing of Lee Ann Tanks. Lee Ann was a former employee of Cobb Fire and most recently working with Cobb Public Safety's Internal Affairs team. Lee Ann was also the wife of retired Cobb Fire Deputy Chief and Cobb Public Services Director William Tanks. Please keep the Tanks family in your thoughts and prayers.

Many families have known family or friends that struggle with addiction of some kind. This month our speaker will be Dan Dixon, a long-term recovery person that now assists others with addiction and recovery. He is a Certified Addiction Counselor, a Certified Peer Specialist for Addictive Diseases and a Certified Peer Specialist for Mental Health. Dan shares his personal story and never passes on an opportunity to share hope with another person. He works with several recovery centers as an admission coordinator as well as being the founder and owner of Carroll County Recovers.

We hope each of you will be able to attend and please encourage other retirees to join us. This is a great opportunity for fellowship and catching up with old friends.
