We know that many of you are curious about why our storm sirens have been tested so much the last few days... The simple answer is, upgrades have been taking place!

Thanks to Muhlenberg County Emergency Management director Ricky King and Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch, our storm sirens have received much needed repairs and upgrades. There were several storm sirens within our community that either didn't work or had consistent issues. This caused reliability issues of our warning system, as many of you noticed.

After months of work, these issues have been corrected. Some new equipment was installed, and a big change came for how our sirens are activated when a storm warning is issued.

Before, Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch would activate our storm sirens when they received the weather warning. Now, our sirens are directly tied to the National Weather Service. They will be automatically activated the moment a storm warning is issued. This ensures maximum warning time and frees up our local dispatchers to answer your calls.

** Remember, outdoor warning sirens are ONLY intended to warn you if you are outdoors. **

We want to take a moment to say Thank You to all who were involved in this project.
