It’s hard to find the words for someone who meant so much to so many.
Tony started out as a customer, became a co-worker, and before long, he became one of my best friends. The truth is, he was everyone’s friend. He had a way of making every person he met feel like family.
He was always there with a smile, a laugh, words of wisdom, or a swift kick in the rear end when you needed it. He would give you the shirt off his back without ever expecting anything in return. To so many of us, he wasn’t just a friend—he was like a dad.
His faith wasn’t something he talked about occasionally; it was how he lived every day. If someone said “goddamn,” you could always count on Tony smiling and saying, “Damn is not God’s last name.” That was Tony—always reminding us to do better, but always doing it with love.
Every time we said goodbye, he’d tell us, “Vaya con Dios,” and we’d answer, “I love you, brother.” None of us ever imagined those words would one day be our last goodbye, but I’m thankful we never left without saying them.
The shop will never be the same, and neither will our hearts. Thank you, Tony, for your friendship, your wisdom, your laughter, and for showing all of us what it means to be a truly good man.
I love you, brother.
Vaya con Dios. Until we meet again. ❤️
