NWC Outdoor Recreation

NWC Outdoor Recreation Offering an A.S. and A.A.S. degree in Outdoor Education in Wyoming. Courses taking place in the fiel It’s called adventure education for a reason. You’ll see.

You’ll immerse yourself in beautiful Yellowstone country, taking only one class at a time in NWC’s Outdoor FOCUS. You’ll learn:

Technical Skills — whether it’s ice climbing, scuba diving, spelunking or bicycling, your skills become an innate part of who you are when you concentrate on nothing else. Spend 14 days kayaking with us. Leadership — live in the backcountry for two weeks and you’ll run s

mack into your raw leadership style and find out how well you communicate with others. Then you’ll refine that style by leading Wilderness Orientation Week and high- and low- challenge courses in NWC’s DELTA program. Career Options — you love the adventure of the outdoors, but it takes more than that to make a living. At NWC, you’ll work in the field with people who are getting paid to do what they love outside. You’ll find where your passion can take you in the workforce.

On Wednesday, April 15, the Northwest College Nursing, EMS, EMT, Paramedics, Outdoor Education, and Criminal Justice Cohorts will be participating in a joint training event based off a mass casualty response incident, providing an opportunity for these students to train on relevant topics and will provide the faculty and staff an opportunity to evaluate students on their competencies.

Throughout the day there will be a significant number of people in and around Colter Hall and the Yellowstone Building, including emergency vehicles, EMT/EMS, and Law Enforcement personnel. There will be individuals involved with the event who are acting as casualties, and their clothing and demeanor will reflect as much. At no time during the training will any of the actors be outside of the control of faculty and/or staff, or in locations other than Colter Hall or the Yellowstone Building. Faculty and Staff involved in the administration and evaluation of the incident will be identifiable by reflective vests and should be contacted if there are any questions.

Many of the vehicles will stage in the parking lot to the south of Colter Hall and will travel in between Colter Hall and the Yellowstone Building. NWC's Safety & Security will be involved to provide logistical support and safety oversight in the training. These activities should not in any way affect the normal daily operations of the college but will be very visible throughout the day.

Northwest College Outdoor Education and Ski Patrol Operations students work with with the NWC Paramedic students during a couple scenarios last week. The OEC students took part in a Ski Patrol trauma incident hand off to the arriving ALS ambulance students, followed by a mock incident with injured participants on the low ropes course. It was great to see the different departments working together and doing a great job!
