The violence visited upon the Chesterfield County Police Department yesterday, which is on the heels of the violence visited on to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office just a few short days ago is hard to imagine let alone articulate into words. The Chesterfield County Police Department has always been a huge law enforcement partner of the Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office. We work together with them daily to serve both of our communities in the best way possible. Crime and the violence that comes with it does not stop at any county line. The law enforcement community in general is small. This is evident in the fact that there are several current and retired Powhatan County Deputies who served with the Chesterfield County Police Department previously in their careers. As we continue serving and protecting our respective counties our bond with CCPD will only become stronger.

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the heroes who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice is the foundation of the freedoms we enjoy each day, and their courage will never be forgotten.
From all of us at the Sheriff’s Office, we thank and remember our fallen heroes today and always.

Today, on National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we pause to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to their communities. We especially remember Deputy Robbie Green, who was taken from us in the line of duty on September 20, 2006. Though years have passed, his sacrifice and dedication to serving this community will never be forgotten.

His courage continues to inspire those who wear the badge and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Please join us today in honoring Deputy Robbie Green’s memory and the memories of all fallen officers.

Last week Sheriff Brad Nunnally, Lt. Marilyn Durham, and Chief Deputy Jeff Searfoss attended the Virginia Sheriff's Institute's Spring Conference in Norfolk. VSI is the educational and charitable arm of the Virginia Sheriff's Association. It provides training for Sheriffs and Deputies, offers college scholarships for criminal justice students, and supports families of Sheriffs and Deputies killed in the line of duty. The picture below was taken during a casual networking session after classes had concluded for the day.
