Last night, our team had the opportunity to be featured on Channel 12 news, highlighting an important shift we’re seeing in our community—the rise in mental health related calls.

We’re proud to share that we’re not only answering the call but we’re trying to better serve. When someone calls and gets the help they need, about an hour later they can expect a text that provides them with a number of mental health resources like links to 988 or CReST.

We're proud to share that our Director, Operations Manager and VCIN Audit & Compliance Specialist will be featured on Channel 12 News this evening at 5:30pm discussing an important update about mental health and overdose calls.

Our department has launched a new initiative to provide long-term support resources to residents following a crisis. As Powhatan experiences a significant increase in mental health-related incidents over the past few years, the 911 center will now automatically provide resource information to callers via text message as part of a proactive awareness and support plan.

When a resident calls 911 to report a mental health crisis or an overdose, our dispatch system -utilizing Power Engage software -will automatically send a support text message to the caller approximately one hour after the call is received.

Be sure to tune in and learn more about how we handle mental health & overdose calls in the county.

As National Public Safety Telecommunications Week comes to a close, we want to take a moment to say thank you.

Thank you to our 911 dispatchers who show up every day with calm voices no matter what comes through the line. You are the unseen first responders and the calm in the chaos.

Thank you to Powhatan Sheriff's Office, Powhatan County Fire and Rescue, and community members for your support, appreciation, and kindness throughout the week. It truly means more than words can express. ☺️💛

You hear the sirens. 🚨
But do you hear the voice behind them?

This week, Police, Fire & Rescue turned the spotlight around and shared their thanks for the calm, steady voices on the other end of the line.

Every call. Every second. Every life.

Thank you for taking the time to recognize our team during National Public Safety Telecommunications Week. We definitely felt the appreciation loud and clear this week💛

Teamwork is what holds our team together.🔒 Today’s themed day was sports day. Today was a fun way to show team spirit, but it also reflects what we do every day—working together to get the job done.

Dispatcher Smith participated in Tuesdays themed day which was “Dress like Tom”(Our Director). 🤭

We’d also like to send a special thank you to Rachel Gilman for making homemade cookies for the team. 🍪💛

🦸‍♀️ Superhero's don't always wear capes....sometimes they
wear headsets. Today we had some fun celebrating Superhero Day in dispatch. While we may dress up for the occasion, our dispatchers are real heroes every single day.💛
