“Grain Bin Rescue is an essential part of a rural volunteer fire department; however, it

sometimes falls under the radar.”

Grain Bin Rescue: Firefighters will learn the main cause of grain engulfment and will be instructed on how to safely enter into a grain bin to perform a grain bin rescue. They will learn safety around grain and grain storage facilities, lock-out tag-out procedures, treating a patient with crushing injuries, use of the grain rescue tube, and how to make cuts into the grain bin panel for full engulfment rescue. The program allows several evolutions with the grain bin rescue simulator dealing with both partial engulfment and full engulfment’s.

Recognizing that awareness, prevention, and appropriate bystander intervention are crucial to positive outcomes, all individuals who have any association with grain storage are encouraged to attend this training event.

The Powhattan Fire Department and sponsoring organizations invite First Responders, Ag Producers, Ag Workers, Family Members, and other Members of the Public, to attend Grain Bin Rescue Training.

Presented Tuesday evening, July 7th, 2026 at the Powhattan Fire Station, 123 S Commercial St., Powhattan, Kansas, beginning at 6 PM.

For more information contact Fire Chief Luke Po***ck at 785-741-0128.

We hope everyone had a safe Memorial Day weekend. Thank you to all those who sacrificed it all to protect our great nation.

We would also like to thank all of you who joined us on Sunday for our annual pancake feed. We served 205 people and raised more than $2000 that will help us continue to serve you!

This year we welcomed What's Your Occassion to join us and twist balloons for the kids and had a surprise visit from our State Fire Marshal, Mark Engholm,!
