With school starting back up today, here is a reminder on how and when you can safely pass a stopped school bus. Always keep an eye out when a bus is slowing down and stopping for children in the area who may not be looking as they run across the roads.

With the extreme heat returning make sure your vehicle is ready. Keep extra water for you and for your car just in case a hose or belt breaks. And keep that cell phone charged in case you get stranded and need to call for assistance.

Parents, If your child has a scooter similar to this and is riding it around this summer, please remind them of the rules of the road and basic safety precautions. They MUST obey traffic laws such as stopping at stop signs, try to ride on the sidewalks (when they are available) and not to ride in the middle of the streets, yield to pedestrians and vehicles when they encounter them, don't ride at night, watch their speed, and always wear a helmet. There have already been several complaints called in about the way kids are using them. Officers will be stopping them and speaking to them when we see them not being safe.

Scammer Alert:

Remember, if something seems too good to be true and anytime someone asks for a form of payment to be any kind of gift card and often PayPal, it is most likely going to be a scam.

Most recently, a citizen was contacted about a property they believed to be for rent. The individual they were speaking to actually had no connection to the property and was attempting to get a deposit and document fees in the form of XBox, Target, and other gift cards. Fortunately, the citizen realized it was a fake deal and no loss occurred. If there is ever any question about a transaction, call law enforcement and we can help you determine if it is real or not before you lose any of your money or savings.
