On this day in 1865, freedom finally reached Texas.

Here in Prairie View, that history is not distant—it is personal.

Near the land that would become our community, men, women, and children at the Alta Vista Plantation learned they were free. Freedom had been promised years before, yet they were among the last to receive the news.

Today, we honor their strength, resilience, and determination.

We honor those who endured hardship, built families, founded communities, and created opportunities for future generations despite unimaginable challenges.

Their story became our story.

Their perseverance helped lay the foundation for the Prairie View we know today—a community rooted in faith, education, service, and the belief that tomorrow can be better than today.

Juneteenth is more than a celebration of freedom. It is a reminder of our responsibility to continue building, serving, and creating opportunities for those who will come after us.

As we honor the past, let us remain committed to the future.

Because our ancestors did not survive for us to stand still.

They survived so we could build.

I had the honor of signing my first official proclamation as Mayor, recognizing the inaugural Blackberry Festival in the City of Prairie View. 🍇

This festival was about more than celebration — it was about bringing people together, building community, and creating new traditions for our city. Proud to support events that unite Prairie View and move us forward together.

The work continues.

Yesterday, I had the honor of serving meals to our seniors through Meals on Wheels.

Our seniors are the foundation of this community—their wisdom, their sacrifices, and their legacy are the reason Prairie View stands strong today. It meant a lot to not only deliver meals, but to spend time, listen, and encourage them to make their voices heard at the polls.

This campaign has always been about people—and making sure every generation is seen, heard, and valued.

If you haven’t voted yet, now is the time. Let’s show up for our community the same way they’ve always shown up for us.
