🚫 Vernon Township Pool Closed Today 🚫

Due to poor air quality in our area, the Vernon Township Pool will be closed today out of an abundance of caution for the health and safety of our patrons and staff.

We will continue to monitor conditions and provide updates regarding future operations as needed.

Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the pool as soon as conditions improve.

Please stay safe and limit prolonged outdoor activity while air quality remains poor.

Wildfire smoke continues to fill in across northern IL and northwest IN and is causing very poor air quality in addition to reduced visibilities. If driving make sure to slow down and use your low beams so others can see you.

The Illinois EPA has recommendations on how to stay safe during periods of very poor air quality which can be found in this PDF (https://document.airnow.gov/air-quality-guide-for-particle-pollution.pdf). Make sure you also check the latest air quality information and forecasts on AirNow.gov!

Pool Opening Delayed: Due to ongoing construction, the William E. Peterson Park Pool will not be able to open as planned on May 23. We hope to have the pool plastered this week, weather permitting. Following installation, the plaster must cure underwater for several days before the pool can safely open to the public. The Township will share updates and announce the official opening date as soon as it becomes available. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to make improvements to the pool.

Registration is now open for Vernon Township Summer Camp! This fun-filled summer program will run from Monday, June 15 through Friday, July 31. The camp has expanded for the upcoming season and now welcomes children who are ages 4–8 on or before September 1, 2026, with activities taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Campers will enjoy a full schedule of games, crafts, sports, themed activities, special guests, and lifeguard-led swim lessons every third day to give them a summer packed with a variety of activities, learning and new friendships.
