Members, please join us tonight for our May monthly meeting. We will have a pulled pork dinner at 6:00 pm with our meeting beginning at 7:00 pm sharp.

This months meeting will be the third and final call for Post Officer nominations with the election held immediately after. Please come and make your voice heard!

May 6th in US military history.

1861 – Following their defection from the US Congress, Democrats established the Confederate Congress and passed, as their first act, a bill recognizing the state of war with the United States. They also authorized the issuing of Letters of Marque to private vessels or pirates.

President Davis issued instructions to private armed vessels, in which he defined operational limits, directed “strictest regard to the rights of neutral powers.” ordered privateers to proceed “With all … justice and humanity” toward Union vessels and crews, out-lined procedure for bringing in a prize, directed that all property on board neutral ships be exempt from seizure “unless it be contraband,” and defined contraband.

March 4th in US history: Abraham Lincoln was inaugurated for his first term on Monday, March 4, 1861, at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.. Due to high tensions and threats of violence, the ceremony was held under heavy military guard. He was later inaugurated for his second term on March 4, 1865

December 3rd in US Military History

The Malta Summit was a meeting between United States President George H. W. Bush and Soviet General Secretary Mikhail Gorbachev on December 2–3, 1989, just a few weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall. It followed a meeting that included Ronald Reagan in New York in December 1988. During the summit, Bush and Gorbachev declared an end to the Cold War.

September 3rd in military history. On this day in 1956, the state of Tennessee deployed two battalions of National Guard troops along with M41 Walker Bulldog tanks to quell unrest over school integration in Clinton Tennessee.
