The Sauk Prairie Airport Board of Directors would like to extend our gratitude to our community for once again coming out and helping us fundraise for another safety project that our not-for-profit board is undertaking this year. Each of our board members are volunteers who receive no compensation for their time and effort overseeing the day-to-day upkeep and maintenance of the public-use Sauk Prairie Airport, which has been leased to the Township of Prairie du Sac since 1963. We work hand in hand with Sauk County, the Village of Prairie du Sac, and Township of Prairie du Sac; all of whom have a proportional share of the assets of the airport board, and all of whom help the board keep this airport a safe and valuable resource for our community. The repairs needed to the runway and taxiway far exceeded our financial reach, but thanks to multiple local sponsors (listed below) and Fly-In attendee’s personal donations, we have surpassed our goal for the asphalt repair, and will be able to move forward with that project this fall.
There is a very long list of those who helped us in so many ways: The Sauk Prairie Chamber of Commerce, Piggly Wiggly, Sauk Prairie Market (Sentry), McDonalds, Culvers, Sauk Prairie Harley Davidson, McFarlane’s, Mid-State Equipment, Honey Creek Snowmobile Club, Kayser Chrysler, vendors from all over Wisconsin and Iowa, Paul Imholte and his Wandering Strings, TJ Howell, Truly Remarkable Loon, Jolly Giants and Red Hot Dixie just to name a few. Others toiled behind the scenes on webpages and websites. Safety was provided by the Sauk Prairie Ambulance Association and Bike Medics, the Sauk County Sherriff’s Department, the Sauk City Fire Department, and the Col-Sac branch of Civil Air Patrol. UW Med Flight made a special and very well received appearance, and Fly High Wisconsin and Wisconsin Aviation gave helicopter and airplane rides, respectively. Todd Bakers’ crew from Eagle Inn and Prairie House, Wyttenbach’s ‘Steak in the Community’, and Paul’s Chocolates provided delicious food and treats. If you missed the Fly-In, please take some time to come by and take a look at the refurbished M-60 tank at the Veteran’s Memorial. Jim Sailor and his crew did amazing work, and their presentations and tours were one of the biggest crowd-pleasers of the day. Our event partner, Sauk Prairie Animal Hospital and Shamrock Pet Resort, provided valuable support and encouragement not only on the day of our joint event, but throughout the planning of our Fly-In and their Open House.
We send very special thanks to all the volunteers who worked in the heat and sunshine both Friday and Saturday. Without you, we literally could not have a Fly-In event. You are the greatest reason why our Triennial (every three years) event is safe, well-coordinated, and fun.
