Books for Boots

Books for Boots She was transferred from active training to Romeo Company, Parris Islands’ medical rehabilitation unit for injured recruits.

Books for Boots is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides books, movies, cd's, puzzles, approved craft items, and more to all members of the military - including injured recruits, veterans, and military children - for free, always. Books to Boots came to life after my oldest daughter, Mackayla, found herself injured with stress fractures after about four weeks of basic training in the Marines in Spri

ng of 2023. What I realized through my daughter’s experience is that when these injured recruits are placed in Romeo, they have approximately two weeks before they will receive any comfort items (books, craft items, etc) from family members. It takes about that long for families to receive their recruits’ new address and to be able to gather items and ship via USPS to the address given. And that’s if the family is even able to send items. Some can’t because they just can’t afford to do so. I was informed that the community library for injured recruits was very low on books. This really bothered me and I wanted to help change this and support these medical rehab units. I reached out through various channels at Parris Island and got approval for sending books. I also came to realize that recruits could use movies and music CD’s. These are obviously at the discretion of the drill instructors and commanding officers and are often used as good behavior incentives. Some recruits prefer to do small crafts during their increased daily down time, and I thought that Books for Boots could help in that area as well. Another insight I gained was that the need for books, movies, music, and craft items isn’t limited to the Marines, but other branches as well. I have contacted and received confirmation from some that items will be most welcome and appreciated. As items are gathered and processed, more basic training installations will be added to the roster to receive shipments. It is my sincere goal to help provide and ship out at least; 500 books, 150 movies, 75 music CD’s, and numerous crafts to each base. After each location has received this amount, the goal is to provide another increment in each and / or maintenance shipments every month to keep inventory of all items at a desired level. All items are stored in a community library of sorts for each medical rehab unit but will still diminish over time. All items come from individuals in the local community through local book and media drives and other events. Items are cleaned, inventoried, and shipped accordingly. I won’t be able to accomplish this alone. It will take more funds than I can personally provide to cover the costs of shipping for these set goals. If you find that your company would be willing to sponsor our organization, you can find more information on our website (https://booksforboots.org) or feel free to reach out to me anytime at [email protected].

A huge THANK YOU to the amazing PVM Beta Panthers Beta Club students who volunteered at our Red, White, and Boots Festival! ❤️🇺🇸

From concessions and food tickets to face painting and helping wherever they were needed, these students did an incredible job!

We are so grateful they chose to spend their Saturday volunteering, supporting our mission, and helping make our very first festival a success.

Thank you for your hard work, great attitudes, and willingness to jump in and help. We truly appreciated each and every one of you!

A few weeks ago, we had the incredible privilege of sending books, puzzles, and other items to service members deployed overseas.

When we first connected with them, they shared that some of the usual recreational resources available to them were no longer operating in their area. They simply asked if we might be able to send a few things to help them pass the time during the little downtime they have.

It was an absolute honor to say yes.

We packed the boxes, covered the shipping, and sent everything at absolutely no cost to our service members — just as we always do.

Today, knowing that the area where these men and women are serving is under attack makes that shipment feel a little different.

This post isn't about politics. It isn't about opinions or debates.

It's about the men and women wearing our nation's uniform who are far from home, and the families here who love them and are waiting for them to come home.

Please join us in praying for our troops serving overseas. Pray for their protection. Pray for their strength. Pray for the families waiting anxiously at home. And pray that God watches over each and every one of them and brings them safely home to the people who love them.

Sending those boxes was a privilege.

Supporting our military is a privilege.

And today, especially, we are reminded just how much the people receiving those boxes mean to us.

God bless our troops, wherever they may be. Please keep them safe and bring them home. 🇺🇸

❤️🇺🇸 THANK YOU. Truly, from the bottom of our hearts… thank you.

Yesterday’s Red, White & Boots Festival was something I don’t think I will ever forget.

There is absolutely no way to put on an event like this without an incredible amount of work behind the scenes. And when I look back at yesterday, what I will remember most isn’t the tents, the food, the music, the activities, or even how exhausted we all were by the end of the day. 😂

I’ll remember the people.

The people who showed up early to set up and stayed late to clean up. The people who cooked, baked, hauled tables, moved tents, served food, watched over activities, worked admissions, helped vendors, picked up trash, took pictures, handled the Jeep Show, checked bathrooms, answered questions, covered breaks, solved problems and jumped in wherever they were needed.

The people who donated supplies, food, equipment, prizes, auction items, money, time and talents.

The businesses, organizations, sponsors and community partners who believed in what we were trying to do and helped us make it happen.

And every single volunteer who gave up part—or all—of their Saturday to help Books for Boots.

Some of you have been beside us for a long time. Some of you volunteered with us for the very first time yesterday. Some of you simply saw something that needed to be done and did it without ever being asked.

Please know that I noticed. And I am so incredibly grateful.

And to EVERYONE who came out to attend our festival—THANK YOU! ❤️

Thank you for bringing your families. Thank you for shopping with our craft vendors. Thank you for participating in the Jeep Show, bidding in our silent auction, buying food, enjoying the activities, supporting our sponsors and simply spending your Saturday with us.

I hope your kids had fun. I hope your family made some good memories. I hope you learned a little more about Books for Boots and the military members and families we are so honored to serve.

This festival was our opportunity to celebrate something pretty incredible: in just over three years, our little grass roots nonprofit has provided more than 20,000 books, movies, puzzles, games, crafts, educational resources and other items to members of our military community.

But yesterday reminded me of something even bigger.

Books for Boots may have started with our family, but it doesn't belong to just us anymore.

It has become a COMMUNITY.

A community of people who give what they can. People who donate a book, bake a cookie, carry a table, volunteer for an hour, sponsor an event, fill a box, share a post or simply show up.

Every one of those things matters.

Yesterday took a village, and what an incredible village we have. ❤️

From our family and everyone at Books for Boots, thank you for believing in this mission, for supporting our military community, and for helping make the very first Red, White & Boots Festival a day we will always remember.

Thank you. 🇺🇸❤️🥾

We can hardly believe it — the RED, WHITE & BOOTS FESTIVAL is TOMORROW, and we are SO READY to celebrate with all of you! ❤️🤍💙

❤️🤍💙 THANK YOU. ❤️🤍💙

To our incredible VOLUNTEERS, sponsors, donors, community partners, vendors, entertainers, organizations, businesses, military supporters and every single person who has helped us pull this event together — THANK YOU.

An event like this doesn't happen because of one person or even a handful of people. It takes a community willing to donate, volunteer, haul things, set things up, lend equipment, perform, sponsor activities, give their time, share our posts, answer our crazy last-minute requests and simply say, "How can we help?"

You all made this possible.

Now we just hope everyone comes out tomorrow, has an AMAZING time, makes some memories, supports our vendors, enjoys everything we've put together and celebrates this milestone with us! 🇺🇸

We wanted to create an event where families could spend the day together, have FUN, enjoy a ton of activities and not have to spend a fortune doing it.

Tomorrow, that's exactly what we hope you do. ❤️

🎉 COME CELEBRATE 20,000+ ITEMS & THREE INCREDIBLE YEARS WITH US!
