🚒 House Fire in Keystone Subdivision 🚒

Earlier this evening, the Galvez Lake Fire Department, with assistance from the 7th District Fire Department, responded to the report of a house fire in the Keystone Subdivision.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy smoke and high heat conditions coming from the residence. Before apparatus arrived, the first-arriving fire officer, along with deputies from the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, was able to successfully locate and remove two dogs and one cat from the home.

Once fire units arrived on scene, firefighters provided oxygen and emergency care to one of the dogs and the cat, both of which appeared to be suffering from smoke inhalation. We are happy to report that all three animals survived. A second cat is believed to have self-evacuated from the residence prior to our arrival.

Firefighters quickly brought the fire under control and were able to confine the fire to the kitchen area of the home, limiting further damage.

The fire is believed to have originated in the dishwasher area, which serves as an important reminder for homeowners:

⚠️ Dishwasher Safety Tips

Inspect power cords and connections regularly for signs of wear or damage.
Do not run your dishwasher when leaving home or while sleeping.
Keep the area around the dishwasher free of combustible materials.
If you notice unusual smells, smoke, sparking, or performance issues, discontinue use and have the appliance inspected by a qualified technician.
Consider replacing older appliances that may have known safety recalls or electrical issues.

We are thankful for the quick actions of all responding personnel and for the teamwork displayed by our firefighters and law enforcement partners.

Fire is not just flames.

Understanding how fire behaves can help people react earlier, escape faster, and stay alive.

Modern fires can spread rapidly in just minutes—especially with today’s synthetic materials, plastics, and foam furnishings.

⚠️ DARK
Smoke can quickly reduce visibility inside a structure, making it difficult to find exits and increasing the risk of disorientation.

⚠️ HOT
Fire generates extreme heat that can burn skin, weaken structures, and ignite nearby materials through radiant heat and hot gases.

⚠️ DEADLY
Most fire victims are affected by smoke and toxic gases—not flames alone.

Smoke may contain:
• Carbon monoxide (CO)
• Hydrogen cyanide (HCN)
• Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
• Other toxic combustion gases

These gases can cause confusion, unconsciousness, and death within minutes.
