It is with the greatest sense of gratitude, that I'm writing my last post as director of the Skyline High School Thunderbird Choir and will be turning this page over to my successor. If you haven't already heard, I have submitted my retirement/resignation notice effective the end of June. I would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who as supported the Thunderbird Choir under my direction the last 5 years either in person or virtually by following our endeavors here on Facebook. Though I will miss spending each and every day with the wonderful students of the Choir Program, I have so many more incredible memories of time spent with both current and former students. So "Thank You" for allowing me to work with the best students a director could ask for and the support from the students, parents, faculty, and patrons that allowed our program to be as successful as it has been! I will be forever in your debt! Go T-Birds!!

Today, we wrap up our End of the Year awards with our Outstanding Senior Musician Award.

The Outstanding Senior Musician Award is an award presented to a senior who exemplifies the best of our music department, whether that is in Choir, Band or Both. It is probably our most meaningful award as it is voted on by the members of the band and choir. The 2020 Outstanding Senior Musician, as voted on by the music department students is:

Today, we recognize our National School Choral Award for our Outstanding Senior Choir Member. This award given to to the Senior Choir Member who goes above and beyond for the betterment of themselves and the Choir. The certificate states:

“In recognition of singular merit, ability and achievement, of outstanding contributions to the success of the school vocal program, and of an unusual degree of loyalty, cooperation, and high qualities of conduct, by the general consent of the music faculty, school officials, and others,

The National School Choral Award is ‘hereby conferred upon”

Today, we recognize our first End of the Year Award for Choir.

A few years ago, a new award was started with the Choir, the Outstanding Senior Leadership Award. The award is presented to a Senior Choir Member who exemplifies strong leadership, great perseverance, doing what is best for the group, an overall "Rock" of the Choir. This award usually goes to someone who is not at the forefront of the Choir but exemplifies the model choir member.

Today we reach the end of our Skyline Thunderbird Choir Class of 2020 Senior member recognition with Heidi Roberts.

Heidi is a 2 year member of the Skyline Thunderbird Choir singing soprano for the group. She enjoyed being a member of the choir and was content not to be a feature member. But, that didn't keep Heidi from being a quiet leader. She worked hard to be confident of her part and was always willing to help those around her. The Thunderbird Choir appreciates all of Heidi's hard work and commitment to the choir and wishes her well on her future endeavors. Thank you, Heidi!!

Through out the next couple of days, we will be announcing our yearly award winners for the Choir, including Outstanding Senior Leadership Award, the National School Choir Outstanding Senior Award and the Skyline Music Department Outstanding Senior Musician.

Our 6th Skyline Thunderbird Choir Class of 2020 Senior member to be recognized is Brenna Dolezal.

Brenna is a 4 year member of the Thunderbird Choir and sings soprano in the group. Brenna has blossomed during her years in choir. She auditioned for the Kansas Music Educators Association All-State Choir 3 years, and though she wasn't selected for the state group, she was selected for the Southwest District High School Honor Choir those three years. Brenna also took those extra steps to prepare a solo for our music festivals each of her 4 years. She made a trip to the State Music Festival and earned a I rating last year and was on track to repeat this feat again this year. Brenna never backed away from a challenge. She prepared some very difficult solos these last few years and sang them well. Brenna also participated in two musicals while in high school, singing in the chorus for "The Music Man, Jr." and playing the part of Mrs. Luckenbill in "Freaky Friday." Brenna's quiet leadership helped solidify the soprano section the last couple of years and she was never afraid to step up and sing a solo if needed. The Thunderbird Choir appreciates all of Brenna's hard work and commitment to the choir and wishes her well on her future endeavors. Thank you, Brenna!!

Our Skyline Thunderbird Choir Class of 2020 Senior member recognition for today is Hayley Roberts.

Hayley is a two year member of the Thunderbird Choir. She sings Soprano for the choir. Hayley is the consummate choir member. She was always available to do what the choir needed to have done. The Ultimate team player. Hayley has worked hard to step out of her comfort zone become a solid performer and singer. The Thunderbird Band appreciates all of Hayley's hard work and commitment to the band and wishes her well on her future endeavors. Thank you, Hayley!

Today, we recognize our fourth Skyline Thunderbird Choir Class of 2020 Senior, Riley Washington.

Riley is a four year member of the Thunderbird Choir singing soprano. Riley is a huge pillar in the soprano section. Though you never really heard Riley speak, she was oh so quiet, her actions spoke volumes and she was a true leader by example. Just in the last two years, Riley started to move toward the forefront of the choir by discovering her solo voice, singing solos during a choir number or two. Riley also participated in two musicals. She was a chorus member for "The Music Man, Jr." and took on the role of the antique watch shop owner, Mr. Time, in "Freaky Friday." The Thunderbird Choir appreciates all of Riley's hard work and commitment to the Choir and wishes her well on her future endeavors. Thank you, Riley!

Our 3rd Skyline High School Thunderbird Choir Class of 2020 senior member is Kayla Urban.

Kayla is a four year member of the the Thunderbird Choir singing Soprano/Alto. Kayla has been a rock in our women's section fill out where ever parts needed to be covered. Being in Choir has allowed Kayla to step out of her comfort zone as she is most comfortable in background and not the spotlight. She is a huge asset to the choir and served as an excellent example for the underclassmen on "How to be a solid choir member!" The Thunderbird Choir appreciates all of Kayla's hard work and commitment to the band and wishes him well on his future endeavors. Thank you, Kayla!!

Today, we honor our second Class of 2020 Skyline Thunderbird Choir senior, Caleb Reece.

Caleb is a 4 year member of the Skyline Thunderbird Choir and sings Tenor. Caleb is always "willing and able" to do whatever was asked of him. He was a confident leader in the tenor section and every once in a while was good for some much needed tension release. Caleb also participated in two musicals while in choir. He was a traveling salesman in "The Music Man, Jr." (What-ya-talk, What-ya-talk) and Mr. Blumin, the Biology Teacher in "Freaky Friday." (The Frogs are Here!!!!). He did both parts with great enthusiasm!! The Thunderbird Choir appreciates all of Caleb's hard work and commitment to the choir and wishes him well on his future endeavors. Thank you, Caleb!!

Starting today and once a day for the next couple weeks, the Skyline High School Thunderbird Choir plans to feature a different Senior Choir member.

Today, we will feature 2020 Senior Choir member, Steve Fisher. Steve is a three year member of Thunderbird Choir singing Tenor. Steve is a hard worker and is willing to step out of his comfort zone for the good of the group. Steve as a chorus member of "The Music Man, Jr." The Thunderbird Choir appreciates all of Steve's hard work and commitment to the choir and wishes him well on his future endeavors. Thank you, Steve!!
