Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department Reaches ALS Level 2 Milestone

The Pine Level Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce an important new milestone for the department and the community: PLVFD has officially achieved ALS Level 2 – Non-Transport licensure from the Alabama Dept of Public Health, Office of Emergency Medical Services.

This achievement means properly trained PLVFD personnel can now provide a higher level of emergency medical care right here in the community while an ambulance is on the way. In a serious medical emergency, those extra minutes can make a real difference.

Reaching ALS Level 2 status took a great deal of training, hard work, equipment, and dedication from department members. It is another example of a small-town volunteer fire department continuing to grow and improve the services it provides to its neighbors.

PLVFD will continue to work closely with local ambulance services, while now being better equipped to begin advanced care as quickly as possible.

The department is proud of this accomplishment and thankful for the continued support of the Pine Level community.

We all know Alabama summers get hot, but how hot is too hot? Well, that differs for each individual. While we try to distinguish ordinary hot days from extraordinarily hot ones, that line can be a bit fuzzy/gray. A heat index of 109°F is a Heat Advisory, but a heat index of 110°F meets Extreme Heat Warning criteria. Is there really a big difference in what that extra 1°F feels like? Nope. They are both miserable and potentially deadly.

Heat Indices will be in excess of 105°F this weekend. There will be lots of youth sports and other outdoor events going on, so PLEASE take the heat seriously. Don't push yourself or others too far, drink plenty of water, take frequent breaks in the shade/indoors, and use/reapply sunscreen.

At 9:49 pm yesterday evening (8/12/26), your Pine Level Firefighters, assisted by Old Kingston Fire Department Haynes Ambulance of Alabama and Haynes LifeFlight, responded to a reported traffic accident with injuries on Interstate 65 at the 190 mile marker northbound. When our units arrived, the found one subject with critical injuries and another subject with serious injuries. Unfortunately, the individual who had sustained critical injuries succumbed to those injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The individual with serious injuries was airlifted by LifeFlight to an area hospital. Our prayers are with the victims and their families through this difficult time. A total of 1 Engine Co., 1 Brush Co., 1 EMS Sprint Unit, 1 Command Vehicle, 2 Ambulances, and a Lifeflight helicopter responded to this accident.

At 6:00 pm yesterday (7/11/26), your Pine Level Firefighters, along with our automatic aid partners - Marbury Fire Department Friends Page Old Kingston Fire Department Independence Fire Department Booth Volunteer Fire Department Autauga County Rescue Squad, Inc. and Autauga County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a reported residential structure fire in the 100 blk of Laurel Hill Drive. When our units arrived less than 6 minutes later, they found a pile of household items burning against the residence. Our crews had the fire extinguished in less than 3 minutes after arriving, preventing nothing more than minor damage to the residence. The cause of the fire was determined to be a malfunction of a lithium ion battery attached to an e-scooter, which went into thermal runaway and ignited nearby objects. A special thanks to the neighbor who saw and reported the fire, saving his neighbor’s home. Lithium ion batteries require special handling and safety precautions. Carbon Monoxide detectors save lives! At 11:46 pm (6/30/26) your Pine Level Firefighters were dispatched to assist our friends at the White City VFD to investigate a carbon monoxide alarm sounding in a residence in the 700 blk of County Road 49. When they arrived, our team quickly determined there were elevated levels of carbon monoxide in the residence and in short order determined the problem to be a malfunctioning water heater which was shut off and the home ventilated to clear the carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is colorless, odorless, and tasteless. It is a “silent killer”. Without the carbon monoxide detector in this home, this could easily have been a tragic outcome! Instead the residents will survive this event. If you have a gas (natural gas or propane) appliance in your home, get and test a carbon monoxide detector. The life it saves could be yours!

Lightning is no joke! Quick detection and rapid reporting saves property and lives! At 9:28 pm your Pine Level Firefighters were dispatched to a reported lightning strike to a residence in the 1600 blk of Timber Trl. When firefighters arrived, the occupant reported the house had been hit by lightning and she could smell a burning smell. Firefighters found that lightning damage to the residence had arc welded several extension cords to their respective outlets, and one outlet had ignited. Firefighters were able to quickly secure the power to the residence and insure that the incipient stage fire did only minor damage to the home.
