⚠️ Air Quality Advisory for the Town of Preble ⚠️

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the New York State Department of Health have issued an Air Quality Health Advisory that includes Cortland County. Air quality levels are expected to reach unhealthy levels at times through the weekend.

As Cortland County Legislature Chairman Kevin J. Fitch stated:

“We encourage everyone to pay close attention to the air quality forecast and take the necessary precautions to protect themselves and their families. Please check on older relatives and neighbors, limit strenuous outdoor activity when conditions are unhealthy, and seek medical assistance if you experience concerning symptoms.”

The Town of Preble encourages all residents to take this advisory seriously. If you have asthma, heart or lung disease, are an older adult, are pregnant, or have young children, consider limiting time outdoors during periods of poor air quality. Even healthy individuals may experience irritation or difficulty breathing when air quality reaches unhealthy levels.

Please also remember to check in on friends, neighbors, and family members who may be more vulnerable to poor air quality.

The health and well-being of our residents is always our priority. Thank you for doing your part to help keep our community safe, and we hope everyone stays healthy until air quality improves.

Bring your lawn chair, your family, and your friends for an evening of live music, ice cream sundaes, lawn games, and community fun! The Cortland Old Timers Band will be performing a wonderful mix of favorites, and we’ll have activities for all ages—just like our Summer Kickoff event.

📣 Town of Preble Q2 Update: Building Momentum Together!

Over the past three months, your Town Board has been focused on improving infrastructure, planning for the future, and strengthening our community.

✅ Community Development Grant Progress – Signed the contract for the CDBG Housing Rehabilitation Program and we are accepting applications.
✅ Planning for Preble's Future – Adopted the Pro-Housing Community pledge and continued work on zoning and long-range planning initiatives.
✅ Town Hall & Post Office Planning – Completed a building survey with no asbestos found and continued evaluating ADA improvements and post office options.
✅ Roads & Infrastructure – Continued road maintenance, culvert replacements, drainage improvements, and approved equipment purchases to keep our Highway Department operating efficiently.
✅ Financial Management & Employee Benefits – Adopted an Investment Policy, implemented operational improvements, and approved participation in the NYS Deferred Compensation Plan.
✅ Community Highlights – We kicked off summer with a well-attended community party at the park! Residents enjoyed music by Tom Gath, ice cream, games, and a great opportunity to spend time together as neighbors.
✅ Quality of Life Initiatives – Continued exploring speed signs, established a town compost site for residents, and advanced several community improvement projects.

Thank you to our residents, volunteers, employees, and community partners who help make Preble such a great place to live, work, and raise a family. Together, we're moving Preble forward! 🇺🇸🌳🏡

🏠 Town of Preble Housing Rehabilitation Program Now Accepting Applications!🏠

The Town of Preble has received New York State funding to help eligible homeowners make needed repairs to their homes. Assistance may be available for projects such as roofing, heating, plumbing, electrical work, insulation, windows, doors, and more.

Qualified low-to-moderate income homeowners may be eligible for grant assistance with no repayment required as long as the home remains their primary residence for the required period.
