He lived and died a Hero; Corey Comperatore a former Fire Chief was tragically killed at the Rally in Butler, PA on July 13th 2024. A Man of Great Faith. He died shielding his wife and 2 daughters from the actions of a hate filled man.
Please keep Allyson Comperatore and the rest of her family in your prayers.

Just visited with my old fire chief, Howard Kelly. He had open heart surgery, and is now in swing bed at the hospital in Prentiss. He so appreciated the visit. If you can, please stop by and visit with him.

Every career has it's share of firsts, but I think none can compare with the firsts encountered during a firefighters time on the job.

If I could do it all over again I would probably roll right through all of the truly profound, life altering and never again to be experienced fear, thrill, joy sorrow, exhilaration and loss without realizing just how amazing the ride is - just like the first time.

If this is new to you, take a moment every now and then and soak in the beauty and purpose you are experiencing.

It is priceless . . .

First time stepping into the station, in uniform, trained and ready.

First officer.

First time making coffee.

First time slinging a mop.

First time starting the engine, pulling it onto the ramp, switching to PTO, pumping the booster.

First time washing the truck and scrubbing the apparatus floor.

First time shopping as a crew.

First EMS call.

First meal.

First box alarm.

First district inspection.

First Still Box.

First time gearing up, turning in the pack, masking up and going in.

First check.

First time pumping a fire.

First unsucessful CPR.

First screw up.

First belly laugh.

First save.

First Union Meeting.

First promotional exam.

First time not making the list.

First promotion.

First crew.

First slacker.

First report.

First close call.

First funeral.

First debriefing.

First accident.

First fatality.

First prolonged period of overwhelming depression.

First divorce.

First rehab.

First roof.

First realization you’re too old for this.

First pension check.

First nightmare.

First profound sense of peace and accomplishment.

First time writing about it.

First visit to a station as a retired firefighter.

Sunday Wisdom From Paul Combs

The next generation firefighters are just as eager as you were when you joined, full of excitement, enthusiasm, and motivation. They want to learn as much as you do, so don't stifel that passion. Nurture it! Teach them what you know, listen to what they have to offer, and let them find their place at the table.

After all, they will pick up where you leave off, so influence them to success, and give them room to grow.
