We have been busy this year. With busts comes paperwork. Instead of leaving the dogs on a place or in a crate we will allow them to get some exercise on the @dogpacer_treadmill which comes highly recommended by @dogboss702 . While we type our reports. This is to ensure they get their daily exercise and stay ready to protect the community. They will still get their outside playtime and regular walks. #deploydetectdeter

We like to post photos of the K9 alerts. We know when we make a fentanyl seizure we are saving lives. What keeps us up at night are the ones that don’t get stopped. As a community we can stop the use of fentanyl in our communities.

06/25/2021

The Prescott Police K9 Unit is dedicated to stopping videos like these. Please utilize YCSO Silent Witness or contact the Prescott Police Department if you have any questions regarding the use of fentanyl.

Had a great weekend. People ask what Benny and Cooper do on their day off or if they ever get to be dogs. Benny had to show Cooper how to swim. Thanks to Preskitt's Pawz N Clawz and Summit 4x4 Company we were able to share Cooper and Benny along with learn about the Jeep Club. Thanks to their donations we raised over $1400 for the K9 Unit. Thank you to all that were involved and donated. We are grateful to have a community that supports us.

We will spend Memorial Day remembering the Vietnam Working Dogs and their handlers. I have had the privilege to sit down and listen too several Vietnam Dog Handlers. Every day I think about them and their sacrifices. Here are some facts about the Vietnam Working Dog program:

3,747 Military Working Dogs used in the Vietnam Theater of War – Confirmed list by Dr. Howard Hayes, DVM by “Preston Brand Number (tattoo))

Types ofScout Dogs
MissionsTracker Dogs /Combat Tracker Teams (CTT)
Sentry Dogs (Used by all branches) (German Shepherds Only)
Patrol Dogs (German Shepherds Only)
Mine/Tunnel/Booby Trap Dogs
Narcotic Detector Dogs
Water Patrol Dogs

10,000(Approximately) Handlers served in the 10-year period of the conflict

294 Military Working Dog handlers Killed in Action (KIA)

4 Veterinarians Killed in Action (KIA)

230 Military Working Dogs Killed in Action (KIA)

Approximately 204 Military Working Dogs were returned to the States before the U. S. Government stopped the program due to the fear of diseases that might have been transmitted by the returning animals (this was never proven, and it was disproved by later studies). The remainder of the dogs that served were either transferred to the host countries or euthanized by the U. S. Military

1 Medal of Honor Recipient – Staff Sergeant Robert W. Hartsock, United States Army, who distinguished himself on 23 February 1969, by conspicuous gallantry in action while serving as a section leader with the 44th Infantry Platoon (Scout Dog), 3rd Brigade 25th Infantry Division in Hau Nghia Province, Republic of Vietnam.

Note:Approximately 10,000 handlers served. The Vietnam Theater of War was the largest concentrated effort of the use of dogs and handlers in any Combat Era the United States has ever undertaken. These dog teams saved approximately 10,000 lives.

Officer Cooper came in his favorite store to celebrate his 3rd birthday today so we gave him a little extra spoiling! Duck heads & duck feet are his all time favorite! Plus belly rubs! We sent him off to work a very happy Officer! He later caught some bad guys. We know that was his favorite part of his day, well close favorite to his duck head! Happy birthday, Cooper!! We love you!
