The City of Prescott and their contractor, Combs Construction Company, are set to begin the Miscellaneous Sidewalk Improvement Project the week of September 16 through the week of September 30. Crews will remove and replace damaged sections of concrete sidewalk, curb, gutter and driveway entrances along sections of Miller Valley Road and Grove Avenue, and along Goodwin Street between Summit Avenue and McCormick Street. Additionally, five (5) trees along Goodwin Street will be removed and five (5) new trees will be planted behind the new sidewalk, closer to the parking lot.
Access to businesses and residences will remain open during construction, but access may be temporarily restricted at times. Do not walk or drive on the newly poured concrete. Please wait until crews have moved equipment and signage before traveling in these areas.

For the next few months, I am providing facts and information about the Prescott Public Safety Needs as they relate to Prop 478.
In addition to the new and updated facility needs, there are operational needs of new personnel, training and specialty units. These will be phased in over the 10-year timeline I discussed last week. Once capital needs are met, .2% of the tax will sunset. The remaining .75% will continue for these ongoing operational needs.
We have received several questions about why Proposition 478 “Dedicated Public Safety Transaction Privilege (Sales) Tax” is not being put in a separate fund?

We had our August Council meetings last week.
The 1 PM Study Session offered a presentation and discussion regarding downtown beautification services, as well as options for future initiatives.
We spend a lot of bed tax and marketing dollars at conventions around the country to attract tourists here, now we’re going to invest in making sure our downtown is sparkling clean and welcoming. When they arrive, they’ll share their experiences via word of mouth, encouraging other tourists to also visit Prescott.
The beautification appears to have buy-in from local businesses, too. I think investments like this really do pay off. I also want to thank the Tourism Advisory Committee for their proposal to carefully manage the funds, which allows us to move forward with this initiative.
We will likely share a vendor for the services with the County. Since the contract will surround the Courthouse Plaza, having the County be within the Courthouse Plaza parameters makes a lot of sense. This contract will allow us to monitor how well it works and if we need to improve it, or modify the scope of t

I want to start off by congratulating the Finance Department for receiving their Excellence in Financial Reporting Award for the 42nd consecutive year.
This recognition is a testament to the great work of our Finance Department. The award is judged by an impartial panel. It demonstrates a “constructive spirit of full disclosure” which clearly communicates the City’s financial story.

Mayor Update August 5, 2024
Hello, I’m Mayor Phil Goode with your weekly update.
We have a couple of new road projects to share with you that are beginning this week.
First, a Multi-Layer pavement preservation project in which various pavement maintenance and preservation operations will occur along several roadways throughout the City of Prescott for the next few months, as shown in this series of maps.
The City uses a pavement condition index to plan what treatments are right for a given roadway.
Following preparation work, paving operations will commence. Door hangers will be delivered to those affected prior to paving operations that will include information regarding the associated access, work hours and impacts.
There will also be a Micro Seal pavement preservation project.
The micro seal treatment will be completed along several roadways throughout the City of Prescott, as shown in these maps. Prior to micro seal treatment, all affected roadways will require preparation work, including crack sealing and milling. This project is scheduled for completion in late fall 2024. Once complete, these improvements will extend pavement life and improve the road quality for Prescott motorists.
Work may occur Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. with occasional night and weekend work. Please be aware of temporary street closures, lane restrictions, reduced speeds, rough road conditions, loud noise and flagging operations throughout the work zones.
The City is dedicated to keeping the traveling public, businesses and residents informed of potential construction impacts throughout the project.
