Have you ever hiked Thumb Butte?

Rising above Prescott's pines and granite landscapes, Thumb Butte is one of the area's most recognizable landmarks and a favorite among locals. The trail offers a chance to stretch your legs, enjoy the fresh mountain air, and take in sweeping views of the surrounding Prescott National Forest.

Whether you're visiting for the weekend or have lived here for years, it's one of those places that never gets old.

One of the best ways to spend an afternoon in Flagstaff is just wandering through the local shops downtown.

Places like Black Hound Gallerie, PJ Chilcottage, Sage Brush Trading Company, and the shops along Leroux all bring something different to the area — local art, southwestern goods, gifts, vintage finds, and the kind of small-business atmosphere that gives downtown Flagstaff its personality.

It’s the kind of place where you’ll usually leave with something you weren’t planning to buy.

Continuing on with our Summer in Flagstaff series!

If you want to experience some of Flagstaff's history, Hotel Monte Vista and Hotel Weatherford are two downtown landmarks worth stopping by.

Both hotels have been part of Flagstaff for generations and sit right in the middle of the historic downtown district near Route 66. Even if you're not staying overnight, they're fun places to walk through, grab a drink or meal nearby, and soak in some of the old Flagstaff character that still gives downtown its personality today.

Definitely worth adding to an evening downtown.

The Grand Canyon looks completely different once you leave the rim.

This view from the South Kaibab Trail offers a glimpse into the layers, cliffs, and vastness that make the canyon one of the most recognizable landscapes on Earth. Whether you're heading all the way down or just taking in the views, it's hard to appreciate the scale of the Grand Canyon until you're standing on the trail itself.

Part 3 of our Summer in Flagstaff series 🎶🌲

Summer concert nights at Pepsi Amphitheater are kind of a Flagstaff tradition.

Set among the pines at Fort Tuthill County Park, this outdoor venue brings in a mix of concerts, festivals, and live events throughout the summer season. Cooler mountain evenings, live music, and being outside under the trees… it’s hard to beat.

If you’re planning a summer trip to Flagstaff, it’s worth checking the event calendar before you go. You might end up timing your visit around a show.

Just east of Winslow near the old Route 66 townsite of Two Guns sits one of Arizona’s strangest and most haunting historic sites.

Often referred to as Apache Death Cave, the site is tied to a violent conflict in the late 1800s and later became part of the abandoned roadside stop at Two Guns along Route 66. Today, visitors can still explore parts of the old ruins, stone structures, and the cave area itself, though the location carries a heavy history and should be approached with respect and caution.

It’s definitely one of the more eerie and lesser-known stops in Northern Arizona.

Continuing our Summer in Flagstaff series 🍵🌲

One of the best ways to spend a summer morning in Flagstaff is slowing down around Leroux Street.

Start with tea at Steep, wander through the Old Town Shops, and take your time exploring some of the local businesses tucked throughout downtown. This area has a quieter pace than the main streets, which makes it a great spot for slower mornings before downtown gets busier later in the day.

Definitely one of those parts of Flagstaff that’s easy to come back to more than once.

Some of the best Prescott hikes are the ones that make you stop every few minutes just to look around.

Constellation Trails is packed with massive granite boulders, winding desert paths, wide-open views, and those classic Prescott landscapes that somehow feel rugged and peaceful at the same time. It’s a great spot for hiking, trail running, exploring with your dog, or just getting outside for a couple hours without going too far from town.

And yes… the balanced rocks really are that impressive in person. 🥾

Welcome to our Summer in Flagstaff series 🌲☀️

Over the next couple months, we’re sharing some of our favorite places to eat, shop, explore, and slow down around Flagstaff during the summer season.

First up: Historic Downtown Flagstaff & Route 66.

This part of town is really the heart of the city in summer — local shops, patios, live music, historic buildings, and that classic Route 66 energy that makes Flagstaff feel different from anywhere else in Arizona. It’s one of the best places to park the car, walk around for a few hours, and just see where the day takes you.

Keep an eye out for our next Summer in Flagstaff stop later this week 👀
