Nevada Co. Depot & Museum

Nevada Co. Depot & Museum Our mission is to preserve & share the history of Nevada County, Arkansas. Thanks to John Teeter, Jr.

The Nevada County Depot & Museum is a 501(c)3 non-profit preservation organization that manages the 1912 MOPac Depot & Prairie D'Ane Battlefield Park in historic Prescott, AR. The Nevada County Depot & Museum is housed in the 1912 Depot in Prescott, Arkansas, one of Arkansas’s railroad towns. The Cairo and Fulton Railroad, organized in the 1850s, was finally built from the northeast to the southwe

st extremes of the state in 1873, achieving completion at Texarkana on the Texas / Arkansas state line in early 1874. The town of Prescott was platted out in August of 1873 and became the county seat in 1877. The 1912 Depot is the second depot in town, witnessing the heyday and decline of the railroads (though there are over 70 freights passing per day plus the Amtrak). Passenger service ceased in Prescott in about 1967, and in 1970, the Missouri Pacific Railroad sold the depot building to the city of Prescott for one dollar. The museum was renovated and reopened in 2003 for use as a museum after having served several purposes for the city. and Peggy Lloyd, the first curators, the Depot Museum continues to fulfill its mission statement of “We share the history!” today, housing collections on natural history, the Civil War, the city of Prescott, train history, and the history of Nevada County.

Those recipes are as much a part of family history as the people who made them. Join us at The Depot Museum for "Family Dinner: Preserving Family History through Food and Photographs," a unique genealogy workshop. Details on the event page or at thedepotmuseum.org/events .
