Preston Fire Department

Preston Fire Department Serving the Preston area since 1895. The Preston Volunteer Fire Department is an organization that is comprised of 35 dedicated volunteers.

Since 1895, Preston has operated a successful and effective volunteer fire department. We rely on the dedication and commitment of our firefighters who are all members of the Preston community. Firefighters are required to participate in extensive training regulated at federal and state levels. Many of the required safety and health mandates are achieved only at the expense of the volunteers thems

elves such as purchase of protective eye wear, or donation of parts and labor on fire department vehicles. We are proud to be a fully operational volunteer fire department serving our community for over a century. The Preston Volunteer Fire Department is directly responsible for the protection of lives and property in an 86 square mile area. We also have direct dispatch with a neighboring department which covers 100 additional square miles, totalling almost 200 square miles of direct responsibilty. We further aid other surrounding departments covering almost two full counties in the State of Iowa. The Preston Volunteer Fire Department resonds to approximately thirty emergency calls each year. Due to our community education programs for children and preventative fire inspections of businesses this number is kept rather low. We work hard to serve our community to ensure the safety of life and property within our community.

Good morning everyone, we are taking reports of someone calling on behalf of the Preston Fire Department asking for personal details. We would never ask for these details from you, nor would we ask you to log in to a third-party site to put in your details. We discovered this after a recent call from a random phone number to one of our area businesses this morning.

CITY SIREN UPDATE: We have had many questions regarding our 7:00, Noon and 6:00 whistles not going off. We have not discontinued blowing the sirens, we are waiting on a replacement due to it is no longer working. The County Sirens will still sound in the event of an emergency. We hope to be back and operational soon! Thank you!

Regarding yesterday’s weather event, we can confirm now that Preston was directly hit with an EF1 tornado. We’re very grateful for the overwhelming support offered to our community and surrounding areas. Thankfully no additional resources were needed besides Preston Police Department, Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, City of Preston workers, City of Bellevue workers, Gruhn Electric, Alliant Energy, and Jackson County Emergency Management. Thank you to all that reached out and the community for coming together to help one another.
