Please be advised that a Reason To Ride bike run will be passing through town this afternoon, resulting in road closures along Route 165 from just after noon until the end of the run.

12/10/2023-- At approximately 1708hrs the Preston Fire Department was dispatched to a two car MVA with injuries in the area of 509 Route 164. P-21 arrived on scene and found 2 cars with positive entrapment. 1 vehicle was located down a steep embankment, landing in a waterway. bystanders on scene were in the water trying to render aide. P-21 crew entered water to attempt rescue. Command started mutual aid while in route from Norwich Fire Department and Mashantucket Fire Department. Second due units began extrication on second vehicle located in roadway. Pt was extricated and Preston Ambulance with American Ambulance medic transported pt to Backus Hospital with serious injuries. A second pt was transported from scene by Preston Ambulance to Backus Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, one pt was pronounced deceased on scene. The accident is under investigation by the Connecticut State Police.
