Flow Rates in the Oneida Narrows. As always know your skill level ! Plan accordingly ! Wear your Life Vest ! and NO glass bottles in the Canyon ! Pack out your trash . Thanks. Enjoy your summer. https://www.pacificorp.com/community/recreation/water-release/bear-river/below-oneida-dam.html?fbclid=IwAR3o0HGyxBBSGpaRRwIXz481f91DVd_kuJ4reDqMl22QzGObth-PEa2lmRU

These water management data are provisional readings of current river flow conditions. Beware and use caution since river flows can change dramatically because of operational changes at the dams or due to weather conditions.

I sit here listening to the river run free today. Contemplating the last 12 years of endless letters and countless signatures of those that I have never met, whose laughter and joy has echoed through the canyon walls calling me to do more. It is with a humble heart and teary eyes that now I can say it is over. FERC has issued their FINAL DENIAL of Twin Lake Canal Companies’ application. For all of those who have been so diligently involved in this process, I love you. See you all on the river someday.

Love,
The Dursteler Family

We received notice on October 17 that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has accepted the final license application from Twin Lakes Canal Company to construct a 109-foot hydroelectric dam on the Bear River at the base of the Oneida Narrows Canyon, which would flood the canyon all the way to the existing Oneida Dam, obliterating Red Point Campground and a favorite fishing/floating/hiking/camping/hunting destination for thousands of residents, tourists, and recreationists.

The FERC is accepting comments, protests, and motions to intervene. The Oneida Narrows Organization will file as an intervenor ASAP and will keep you apprised of developments in regard to the project, but you can help prevent construction of this environmentally destructive dam. Here’s how:

To file your comments and protests electronically against Project No. 12486-008, Bear River Narrows Hydroelectric Project, see the instructions on the Commission’s website http://www.ferc.gov/docs-filing/efiling.asp. Commenters can submit brief comments up to 6,000 characters, without prior registration, using the eComment system at http://www.ferc.gov/docs-filing/ecomment.asp. You must include your name and contact information at the end of your comments. For assistance, please contact FERC Online Support at [email protected] or toll free at 1-866-208-3676, or for TTY, (202) 502-8659. Although the Commission strongly encourages electronic filing, documents may also be paper-filed.

To paper-file, mail an original and five copies to: Kimberly D. Bose, Secretary, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, 888 First Street, NE, Washington, DC 20426.

Send your comments electronically or by post right away. The deadline is 105 days from the issuance date of notice (Oct. 17), but please do it now so you don’t forget. It’s vital that we have a huge public showing of concern if we want to keep our river flowing free and accessible to all.
Many thanks,

You must have or create a full eRegistration account (not limited to eSubscription) and use the Commission's efiling system if you are filing:

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), Washington D.C., has issued a third preliminary permit to Twin Lakes Canal Company (TLCC) to continue to "determine the feasibility of the proposed project and to prepare a license application" (FERC Order, p. 6).

You can view the issuance here.

You may also eSubscribe to the docket number in the issuance here.

The permit is good for one year only, and protestants may intervene again if TLCC files for a license application at the end of that period.

The denial of a water permit by the Idaho Water Resource Board still stands, and the project will not be approved without that permit. Although it seems pointless, the FERC may continue to work with TLCC up to that point. BRWC and ONO will continue to keep you posted.
