The Prestonsburg Fire Department would like to congratulate Erica Meade on passing her National Registry EMT exam. Erica has been in the fire service for 6 years and is a fully certified firefighter. She volunteers with the Middle Creek Fire Department and the Prestonsburg Fire Department. Erica is also a very skilled 911 dispatcher. The Prestonsburg Fire Department continues to strive for excellence, and with people like Erica, we will only get better.

***BOMB THREAT TO LOCAL BUSINESS***

At approximately 2:47 PM, Prestonsburg/Floyd County ECC received a blocked call on our business lines from a male individual claiming to be armed with weapons including a pipe bomb with the intent to do harm to Food City in Prestonsburg on University Drive.

Response is ongoing, but as of this post we have found absolutely no evidence to substantiate the threat. We have traced the call and found it to be the same number that was calling in threats to area schools last week from an internet calling provider.

Area schools were placed into lockdown as a purely precautionary measure. After multiple sweeps of the campuses, we are preparing to give the all clear.

The Prestonaburg Fire department would like to welcome Jules William’s as our newest volunteer. Jules comes to us with no fire or EMS experience but has been to the station everyday for training and attended fire school in Louisa last weekend. He is extremely motivated and we expect great things from him.

The Floyd County Firefighters Association is proud to announce our newly appointed officers. These individuals have stepped up to lead with dedication, integrity, and a shared commitment to serving our communities. As we begin this new chapter, we want to emphasize the importance of unity among all departments across Floyd County. Prestonsburg fire department participated in Career Day at Adams Middle School today. We had a great time and we were able to teach the 8th graders some of the skills we do on a daily basis. We also recruited a couple junior firefighters. Thanks for inviting us Norm Marcum.

Floyd County KY Route 1428 between Lancer and Cow Creek is closed for an extended period of time. Officials are asking motorist to seek an alternate route as authorities are on the scene.

We want to wish Firefighter/Paramedic Kyle Taylor good luck in his new adventure at Pikeville Fire Department. Kyle started his career at Pikeville FD in 2011 and came to Prestonsburg Fire in September of 2024. Kyle is returning to his home department to serve the citizens of Pikeville Ky. He has been a huge asset to our department and we will miss him. Pikeville FD is blessed to get him.
