Tick season is here!

Spend time outdoors safely. Check yourself, your children and your pets for ticks after every outdoor activity. Taking a few simple precautions can help reduce the risk of tick-borne illnesses:

• Wear light-colored clothing so ticks are easier to spot.
• Use insect repellent according to label directions.
• Stay on cleared trails when possible.
• Avoid walking through tall grass and brush.

Learn more about preventing tick bites and safely removing ticks on the CDC’s tick prevention webpage at www.cdc.gov/ticks/.

Congratulations to our May 2026 Thin Gold Line recipient, Weston Butler!

On his first day of independently taking calls, Weston, one of the newest public safety telecommunicators, received a call that quickly became critical. The caller reported that a child was not breathing.

With trainer Rena Harger by his side, Weston took control of the call and provided step-by-step instructions for the caller to perform CPR on the child while first responders were en route. He remained calm and ensured every instruction was clearly understood during the frantic situation.

Since that first critical call, Weston has successfully handled numerous emergencies and consistently provided the highest level of care and support during callers’ times of need. He takes great pride in his work and approaches each call with dedication, empathy and a desire to make a positive difference.

Weston’s continued growth and commitment to excellence make him a valuable member of our team and community. Congratulations, Weston!
