Prince George County is now under a countywide burn ban, effective immediately.

Due to dry conditions and increased fire risk, all open-air burning is prohibited, including yard debris burning and campfires. This action follows guidance from Fire & EMS and was approved by the Board of Supervisors on April 28.

Even a small spark can quickly turn dangerous. Residents are urged to:
- Avoid any activities that could create sparks
- Properly dispose of ci******es and matches
- Keep vehicles and equipment off dry grass
- Report any signs of fire or smoke to 911

The burn ban overrides the current statewide burn law and will remain in place until conditions improve.

For waste disposal, residents can use the Convenience Center at 3100 Union Branch Road South.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

Prince George County is now under a drought warning advisory, meaning the risk of wildfire is high. Dry soils, low stream levels, and little rain in the forecast are all contributing to increased fire danger across the area.

With these conditions, it’s especially important to follow Virginia’s statewide burn law (in effect Feb 15–Apr 30):

- No open-air burning before 4 PM if you’re within 300 feet of woods or dry grass.
- After 4 PM, fires are allowed but must be attended at all times and fully extinguished before leaving.
- Keep burn piles small and manageable. Large debris burns can easily get out of control in dry, windy conditions.
- Have water, a hose, or tools on hand to quickly put out sparks or spreading flames.
- Consider skipping burning altogether right now, mulching or hauling debris is safer during drought conditions.

Even routine yard burning can spark wildfires in weather like this. Staying cautious helps protect homes, forests, and first responders.
