Somerset County Department of Social Services has partnered with St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Princess Anne to ensure all of Somerset's foster children and youth have new luggage and personal containers for transporting their personal belongings. This partnership enabled the church to apply for and obtain grant funding through its diocese. The funding is dedicated exclusively to purchasing age-appropriate luggage, personal containers, and hygiene products or storage pouches for Somerset's youth when they enter foster care, change placements, or exit care.

Pictured are Ms. Rebecca McElhone of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Lori Engle, SCDSS Director.

As tomorrow is the 1st day of August, we wanted to take a moment to recognize that August is Child Support Awareness Month. Child Support Awareness Month (CSAM) is an annual national observance held throughout August that highlights the critical role child support plays in ensuring the financial, medical, and emotional well-being of children. The month is dedicated to several key goals: Highlighting Importance: It focuses on the impact that consistent child support has on a child’s future, providing the foundation for stable, secure, and thriving childhoods.
Connecting Parents to Resources: It serves as a dedicated time to help parents navigate the child support system, access official services, and understand their rights and responsibilities.
