Rowan University’s Owl Company recognizes the brave efforts of men and women affected from the September 11 attacks. With nearly 3,000 innocent individuals being killed, it is important to live in constant remembrance.
The September 11 attacks were a series of four coordinated terrorist attacks by the Islamist terrorist group al-Qaeda against the United States on the morning of Tuesday, September 11, 2001. The attacks resulted in 2,977 fatalities, over 25,000 injuries, and substantial long-term health consequences, in addition to at least $10 billion in infrastructure and property damage. 9/11 is the single deadliest terrorist attack in human history and the single deadliest incident for firefighters and law enforcement officers in the history of the United States, with 343 and 72 killed, respectively.

How have you all spent your week? For the past 8 days, Rowan company engaged in Operation Agile Leader at Fort Dix military base. Cadets from all around the state of New Jersey tested and graded in the areas of leadership and platoon management. Congrats to incoming MS4’s for their successes throughout the week!
All contracted ROTC cadets are required to attend summer training prior to their commissioning. The mission of Advanced Camp is to assess a Cadet’s potential to serve as a commissioned officer. It is the most significant training and evaluation event in ROTC. Training is complex, challenging, and rigorous and is conducted in a stressful training environment. Cadets reinforce basic skills through squad (9-13 Cadets) level leader development exercises, and transition to platoon (40-50 Cadets) level operations in a company construct.

Cadet(s) of The Week: Incoming Owl Company Command Team!
From left to right, Cadet Jacob Lines (Owl Company Cadet Commander), Cadet Dylan Bonilla (Owl Company Executive Officer), Cadet Alex Bastardi (Owl Company Cadet First Sergeant). Each of these individuals are prospective MS4s with our program who have been with us for some time and are soon to be Second Lieutenants in the US Army. During their last year with Rowan University and with Princeton University ROTC, they step up to the plate as leaders and instructors to the younger Cadets who must complete their necessary commissioning tasks prior to graduation. MS4s are placed into leadership positions to help fulfill planning for Military Science labs and training that is held mostly on Thursdays in our program. These Cadets are placed into positions such as the one above, or, in Staff (S-Shops). Each position equally as important as the next, it is imperative each of these Cadets show their full potential and leadership abilities to complete the mission. Congrats to all our incoming MS4s! @ Rowan University

For Owl Company’s last lab, our Cadets conducted a 12 Mile tactical road march, or better known as a “ruck” march. Each Cadet had a Ruck Sack with a total of 35 pounds to simulate gear/equipment items essential to a tactical mission, and simulating having to get to a mission site on foot! These exercises are conducted to be successfully completed in 4 hours by Cadets, however the RECONDO/Air Assault standard is 3 hours and is expected to be completed in such. Ruck marches are essential to training as they are a part of Cadet assessment at Advanced Camp and Basic Camp. Take a look at how are Cadet’s performed! @ Rowan University

Cadet of The Week for Week 7—Cadet Inella
Cadet Inella has demonstrated he can put his best to the test with the APFT; among his class, he is the only one to have achieved a perfect score! This is a great accomplishment for himself, and great opportunity to develop his teammates. We recognize him for this achievement as a Freshman Cadet/Student and can’t wait to see what he brings to the future of our program. Give it up for Cadet Inella! @ Rowan University

For today’s tactical lab, Owl Company conducted Movement to Contact and Ambush training. Here, Cadets learned and put to practice how to engage enemy forces while on patrol, and thus reverse the tactic via ambush operations. Take a look here! @ Rowan University

On Monday, Owl Company conducted a 4 mile ruck in preparation for next weeks 12 mile, (a requirement of all Cadets every semester). Take a look at each of our Cadets and the work they put in! We’re very happy to say each Cadet made time within the Air Assault standard, (12 miles in 3 hours or less, in this case, 4 miles in 1). We’re extremely proud of our Company and their continued efforts to be the best they can be! @ Glassboro, New Jersey

CADET OF THE WEEK, OWL COMPANY, WEEK 6: Cadet Heisler
Cadet Heisler demonstrates a good work/school/life balance. Not only does he manage a major in Biochemistry as a full time student, but in our program he holds the position of a Team Leader and the Supply NCO. We commend Cadet Heisler for his work ethic and division of his duties. Continue to strive for excellence and lead among your peers!

CADET OF THE WEEK, OWL COMPANY: Cadet Bender
Cadet Bender displayed excellence among his peers by having set most improved APFT score from his diagnostic to the record in only TWO WEEKS! That is an extraordinary feat reached by Cadet Bender, as to improve at all is what we like to see regardless, but to do so at most among his peers as an MSI is stellar. We would like to recognize Cadet Bender and encourage him to continue striving for an absolute relentless pursuit of excellence in his future career as an Army Officer and with his education. Way to go! .nationalguard @ Rowan University

“Rubber ducky, you’re the one...”
Today, Owl Company Cadet’s underwent Combat Water Survival Training/CWST. The three tests in this training are the gear drop, where Cadets jump in the water and remove a Fighting Load Carrier best before re-emerging, the high jump, where they jumped from a high-dive platform, blindfolded, and with a dummy-rifle, the 15 meter swim, which required them to swim whilst maintaining a rifle above water, and five-minute tread. This training allowed Cadets to break new barriers in their comfort ability with their equipment, and with themselves! Take a look at the fun that ensued! .nationalguard @ Rowan Campus Recreation
