Public Release:
The Officers and Members of The Kingston Volunteer Fire Company #1 and the family of Dennis B Shennard would like to extend a Public Invitation to join our tribute as we pay our final respects in remembrance of the life and service of fallen firefighter Dennis B Shennard. Firefighter Shennard served the Kingston community from January 6, 1969 to the time of his passing on June 26, 2021. Firefighter Shennard served as a Line Officer, serving as both a Lieutenant and Captain, and at the time of his passing was serving the department as a Trustee. Firefighter Shennard was quick to respond, without hesitation, whenever the call for help was received, wherever the help was needed – South Brunswick Township and Middlesex County, Franklin Township and Somerset County, Princeton Township and Mercer County or even to other major incidents throughout the state.

Viewing will be taking place at the MJ Murphy Funeral Home in Monmouth Junction on Wednesday June 30th from 6 to 9 pm. The first hour will be restricted to family and friends with Fire Service tributes commencing at 7pm. Due to extremely limited parking, Fire Departments are directed to go to the South Brunswick High School located at 750 Ridge Road Monmouth Junction, NJ 08852. Please utilize the Ridge Road entrance. Shuttle buses are being provided between the school and funeral home.

While Thursday’s services at the funeral home, which are scheduled for 10:00 am, will be reserved for family and friends, there will be a motorcade procession of Fire Apparatus including Kingston and our Mutual Aid Fire Companies. This motorcade will travel from the funeral home in Monmouth Junction along New Road, Route 522, Promenade Boulevard, Route 27 to Kingston and then will travel to the cemetery.

The Public is encouraged to pay their respects in the Kingston community which firefighter Shennard served so faithfully. The motorcade procession will enter Kingston between 10:45 am and 11:30 am. The public may pay their respects to fallen firefighter Dennis B Shennard along the route in the Kingston Community. We ask the public to be responsive to the direction of the police and fire officials. Parking may be available at the Presbyterian Church on Main Street or the Methodist Church on Church Street.

The route of the motorcade will enter the Kingston community by traveling south on Route 27, turning left onto Academy Street, and then turning left onto Euclid Avenue where Aerial trucks from Princeton and Franklin Park Fire Companies will present an Honor Guard with an American Flag draped between their extended buckets. The motorcade will then proceed onto Heathcote Road and past the Kingston firehouse where an Honor Guard of Firefighters from Kingston along with other Firefighters from across New Jersey and neighboring states. The motorcade will then cross Route 27 onto Laurel Avenue and proceed to the cemetery.

Grab your tissues... You might need them 🥲. For our friends at Penn Princeton, our community of over 40 towns came together, to bring them some holiday cheer.

We wanted to show them that they are not alone, and that we will always be here for them. Healthcare workers, you are our hero’s and we are in this together! #imnotcryingyourecrying

The call that occurred late at night on November 1 was one of great significance. It was a motor vehicle crash with occupant entrapment. The District 2 companies from Griggstown and Little Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Company were on scene to remove the patient from the vehicle. Within minutes, the rescue crew had the Jaws of Life in-service and provided quick access to the patient for EMS evaluation. The pictures below show the vehicle after the accident. Though the damage looks quite extensive, the person was luckily able to walk away from the vehicle.

Want to give a shout out to Red Line Fabrication & Machine LLC for the excellent job done on fabrication and mounting of all the equipment and tools on our new Rescue 41. The fact that the truck remained at the station the whole time was a big advantage.

Sorry we haven’t posted for a while, we have been busy at work completing this project. I’d like to thank Little Rocky Hill Volunteer Fire Company for choosing Red Line Fabrication to outfit their new rescue. I have to say it was a pleasure working with you and your team.

Last night at 9:47 stations 31 (Franklin park) and @middlebushfire were dispatched for a large fire. Shortly after a district dispatched was put out advising there was a well involved structure fire. Upon arrival units found a fully involved pool house fire. Units began working on exposure protection and controlling the fire. Engine 41s crew worked on fire extinguishment and overhaul. Crews were in location until approximately 3am. Thank you to @cvfc_1 @nbvfd3 @svfrc1 for the continued help during our fires. As always we appreciate the efforts put in by the district and our mutual companies. Pic credits to @centraljerseyfirebuffs

Rest in Peace brother

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the Line of Duty Death of FF Israel “Nudge” Tolentino, 33 years old. FF Tolentino courageously fought this illness but succumbed to complications from the COVID-19.

He leaves behind his wife Maria and two children, daughter age 9 and son age 7. He joined the Passaic Fire Department on December 10, 2018 fulfilling his lifelong dream of becoming a Firefighter and serving others. FF Tolentino also served as an EMT on his days off and volunteered for OEM.

Israel was a great Firefighter, person, husband, son and Father. We ask for your thoughts and prayers for him and his family.

Today, May 4th, we celebrate International Firefighters Day. Today we take the time to remember all of those who take the time out of every day to drop what they are doing, leave their families and respond to a strangers home in their time in need. It is a day where past and current Firefighters are thanked and remembered for all of their contributions and sacrifices for their community. Thank you to our brothers and sisters for their service.

“The role of a firefighter in today’s society – be it urban, rural, natural environment, volunteer, career, industrial, defence force, aviation, motor sport, or other is one of dedication, commitment and sacrifice – no matter what country we reside and work in. In the fire service we fight together against one common enemy – fire – no matter what country we come from, what uniform we wear or what language we speak.”
