Today Chief Deputy George Ballard and his wife Linda stopped in Leavenworth, Kansas to visit Gibson County Sheriff Jacob Vail born in February 1827 and passed on October of 1884.

Sheriff Vail in addition to serving as our Sheriff from 1866-1868 starting when he was 39. He served again from 1868-1870, and finally from 1876-1878.

Before serving as our Sheriff, Jacob Vail served as a Brigadier General with the Union Army.

You can find him in this cemetery in section 11-G grave 44.
