5-29: MCFPD secured the LZ for an incoming medical helicopter (Lifeflight Eagle 1) requested by Mercer County Ambulance. A trauma patient was airlifted to Des Moines to a Level 1 trauma center.

Why does Mercer County utilize HEMS (Helicopter EMS)? Due to our distance from definitive medical care +1.5hrs, some patients need to make it to the hospital faster than what we can take them by ground. Trauma, heart attacks, and strokes are some of the conditions where we will utilize aircraft to transport our patients.

5-16: At 12:22am
MCFPD was dispatched out to a report of a structure fire near Ichabod Pl in Millgrove. Crews arrived found the remains of a small shed buring. Firefighters deployed and 1" 3/4 line and extinguished the remaining bits of fire. A brush pile lit earlier in the day had spread with increasing winds into the structure burning it down. It had been burning for an extended period of time before it was noticed.

Shortly after arriving back at the station Crews recieved a page for a report of a grass fire along the railroad tracks in Lucerne. Due to this being outside our district we had the information passed to Sullivan County to dispatch Medicine Creek. We sent one brush truck to assist. Crews found the fire had mostly extinguished itself.

Please be weather aware over the next few days as the risk for damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes are a threat!

It is National Public Safety Telecommunicators week! We would like to thank our dispatchers out of Harrison County for their hard work juggling two counties at once! This is no easy task, especially when every single fire department in both counties are on calls! Thank you for all you do behind the scenes!

3-30: MCFPD responded to two calls.

The first was a rekindle call on Bayport Street. It's believed some burning trees from days prior had fallen across cut burn line causing the fire to spread further into the timber. Crews were able to contain the fire with leaf blowers and hand tools.

The second call was to assist Mercer County Ambulance for an incoming helicopter (Lifeflight Eagle 1). Initially the landing zone was established at our helipad however, due to strong winds the LZ was repositioned between the bridges just west of Princeton on Highway 136. The highway was shut down for approximately 30 minutes to allow the transfer of the patient from the ambulance to the aircraft.
