Today, the members of the Princeton Police Department pause to honor and remember the brave men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness secured the freedoms we enjoy every day.

We also remember and stand with the families, friends, and fellow service members who carry the weight of that sacrifice each day.

As we gather with family and friends this Memorial Day weekend, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the true meaning of the holiday. Even the simple freedoms we often take for granted, including the ability to speak freely, share our thoughts, and live openly, came at a tremendous cost. Those freedoms were defended by heroes willing to give everything for our country.

From all of us at the Princeton Police Department, we thank and remember our fallen service members. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Due to the expected inclement weather today, Princeton’s Memorial Day observances will be held primarily indoors at the First Congregational Church beginning at 1:00 PM.

At the conclusion of the indoor observance, there will be a wreath-laying ceremony, gun salute, and the playing of TAPS at the Veterans Memorial on the Lower Common, followed by a final gun salute and the playing of TAPS at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Although there will be no parade this year, we encourage all to attend these observances as we honor and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation and our freedoms.

The members of the Princeton Police Department extend our heartfelt condolences to our brothers and sisters at the Sterling Fire Department on the loss of Firefighter/Paramedic Jim Emerton. Rest easy, sir — your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Today, the members of the Princeton Fire Department join our brothers and sisters at the Sterling, MA Fire Department in mourning the heartbreaking loss of Firefighter/Paramedic Jim Emerton.

We are deeply saddened to hear of Jim’s passing following his long and courageous battle with occupational cancer. His dedication to the fire service and the community he served will never be forgotten. By all accounts, Jim was the kind of firefighter and person everyone hoped to work beside.

The fire service is a family, and today that family grieves together. Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with Jim’s family, friends, and all the members of the Sterling Fire Department during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest easy, brother. We’ll take it from here. 🖤🚒

Tonight, School Resource Officer Emily Casella, along with Pack 25 Cub Scouts, hosted a great evening of bicycle safety training and fun for children in our community. 🚲👮‍♀️

The Bicycle Rodeo was a fun and interactive way to teach children the rules of the road while practicing safe bicycling skills. The event included stations and obstacle courses where children learned bicycle safety, hand signals, safe riding techniques, and how to navigate a simulated neighborhood environment right here in the Town of Princeton.

This program was made possible through the Massachusetts Safe Routes to School Program with support from MassDOT.

We are also excited that the children who participated tonight will be riding their bicycles in this year’s Princeton Memorial Day Observances Parade on Sunday, May 24th!

A big thank you to Officer Casella, Pack 25 Cub Scouts, the volunteers, parents, and all the young riders who made tonight such a success! 🚴🇺🇸

Today, May 15, we pause to honor the brave men and women in law enforcement who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Peace Officers Memorial Day

In 2025, 115 police officers across the United States lost their lives while serving and protecting their communities. Tragically, 40 officers have already been killed in the line of duty in 2026.

These officers were more than badges and uniforms — they were fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, friends, and neighbors who dedicated their lives to keeping others safe. Their courage, sacrifice, and commitment will never be forgotten.

Today, the members of the Princeton Police Department ask our community to join us in remembering the fallen and keeping their families, friends, and fellow officers in your thoughts.

“We will never forget those who gave everything in service to others.”

The Princeton Historical Society and Princeton Historical Commission invite the community to attend Declaring Independence: Then & Now on Saturday, May 16 at 4:30 PM at the First Congregational Church of Princeton (14 Mountain Road).

As part of this special commemorative event honoring the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, attendees should be aware that a ceremonial musket/gun volley will take place during the program. Residents in the area may hear loud gunshot-like sounds for a brief period of time. This is a planned part of the historical presentation and there is no cause for concern.

The event will feature a live performance and guided community conversation exploring how Massachusetts towns debated and responded to independence in 1776 through the use of historical documents and readings from the Declaration of Independence.

Experience Declaring Independence: Then & Now on Saturday, May 16 at 4:30 PM, hosted by the Princeton Historical Society and Princeton Historical Commission at the First Congregational Church of Princeton (14 Mountain Road). A guided community conversation will follow, offering space to reflect and share perspectives.

Declaring Independence: Then & Now brings to life the Declaration of Independence as a forum for civic dialogue and engagement through a forty-minute performance and ensuing moderated community conversation. The script, written by public historian Mary B. Fuhrer, utilizes primary source material researched by citizen historians to reveal how individuals within Massachusetts towns debated and responded to the question of independence in the spring and summer of 1776, followed by an annotated reading of the Declaration itself.

In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, 15 community-hosted performances are scheduled across the Freedom’s Way National Heritage Area during the spring and summer of 2026. Find a performance near you!

Declaring Independence: Then & Now is supported, in part, by the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati

We had an absolute blast this week hosting the Princeton Community Preschool on both Wednesday and Thursday! 🚓👮‍♀️

Officer Emily Casella, with help from other Princeton Police team members that includes our Fire Department, gave the kids a grand tour of the police station, took fingerprints, showed them a real police cruiser up close, and even let them check out our mini go-kart cop car! 🚔

A huge thank you to the preschool staff and all of our tiny visitors for making the station extra fun this week. Your smiles and excitement made our days — come back anytime! 😊
