We wanted to take a moment and offer an update to yesterday's situation regarding Pikeview Middle School for those unaware or would like more information. Yesterday around 2:00, PVMS staff were informed that school would be closed to students due to a bed bug infestation. It was stated that this decision came after receiving guidance from DHHR and the local health department. However, staff were to still report to the building and to avoid the identified affected areas. It is our stance that staff should not be subjected to these unsafe conditions when a simple solution exists; have them work in another building for the day so fumigation can occur over the weekend. So, a call to action was sent to EWV-Mercer County members to help us advocate for this solution. After many of you agreed to assist and contacted your elected board members, an email was sent before 8pm to the PVMS staff that they will be reporting to another building.

This is an example of how we as a collective voice can influence change for our brothers and sisters in the union. We want to sincerely thank everyone who helped in this effort. We cannot make change without you.
